Insider Patch Notes 2.4.2.3

Insider Update 2.4.2.3 is now live. With updates to the Sea Forts, Legend of the Veil Voyage and the closure of the Arena, there are plenty of things to get testing, so get out there Insiders!

As always, if you encounter any bugs, then please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.

Sea Forts

The ghostly memories of Sea Forts spotted out at sea have now begun to take physical form within the Sea of Thieves…

Sea Forts

  • Upon clearing a Sea Fort, the Fort will no longer repopulate with Phantoms until all players leave the area. Crews can now freely use this space as a homestead or a fortification to defend against other crews!
  • Further improved the stocks of good food within barrels on the Sea Forts, with less cannonballs and planks available.
  • Additional resource barrels have been added to a range of Forts to provide consistent resource levels across each fort for restocking.

Legend of the Veil

Voyage Updates

  • Improved artwork has been added within the Quest Books for Shipwreck Graveyards, lying map quests, Haunted Islands and Haunted Fort Quests.

Haunted Island Quest

  • The ancients and priest encountered during the summoning ritual now have improved character models and animations, however these continue to be work in progress.

Haunted Fort Encounter

  • When entering the Haunted Fort Encounter, the lighting and audio now changes to set an eerie tone as crews face off against the ghastly threats.

Closing the Arena

Following our Sea of Thieves 2022 Preview Event, the team announced the difficult decision to close down the Arena mode within Sea of Thieves. For more information on this change, head here

In order to facilitate Insider testing on these changes, all Insiders logging in between February 15th – 1st March will be automatically promoted to Sea Dogs Rank 50 within Insiders.

Front End Changes

  • The Arena will no longer be accessible from the games front-end menu.

Sea Dogs Reputation

  • The Sea Dogs Reputation pane in the Pirate’s Log will now only be visible for players who have earned a Sea Dogs Commendation, celebrating a player’s achievements while hiding Commendations players can no longer achieve.
  • For players who can access this Reputation pane, the previous company progress summary has now been repurposed into a ‘Battle Record’, representing a player’s achievements within the Arena. Within the ‘Battle Record’, players will now only see commendations that have been completed. Any Commendations not yet progressed or incomplete will no longer be visible.

While progress within the Sea Dogs Trading Company is no longer visible, all progress including all levels and any partial Commendation progress has been archived behind the scenes for every pirate.

Sea Dogs Rewards

  • While the Arena has been closed, players will retain all unlocked titles that represented their level progress within the Sea Dog Company along with any unlocked cosmetics.
  • Players who had achieved the necessary criteria to purchase Sea Dog titles and cosmetics have not missed their chance to collect them. The Outpost stores now hold all the Sea Dogs Company rewards and players will find them collectable if they have completed the necessary unlock requirements.

Players with multiple promotions and rewards to unlock will be required to collect them in rank order before higher level unlocks become available.

Sea Dogs Achievements

  • Xbox and Steam Achievements for the Sea Dogs Company are no longer earnable. Players on Xbox will see these achievements now marked as Legacy, while players on Steam will no longer find these achievements visible.

  • The ‘Master of the Arena’ and ‘Glorious Sea Dog’ Achievements however remain earnable if players have obtained the necessary ranks prior to March 10th. After logging in, eligible players can collect the required promotions and items and unlock these two achievements.

Game Settings

  • All Arena specific settings have now been removed from the game setting menus.

Known Issues

Sea Dogs Reputation

  • Players having earned the Legendary Sea Dog Commendation at any grade will currently not find this Commendation visible in the Athena’s Fortune Reputation pane.
  • Insiders boosted to Sea Dogs Rank 50 will have access to the ‘Battle Record’ within the Reputation tab even without having fully completed any Sea Dogs Commendations.
  • Insiders boosted to Sea Dogs Rank 50 will have been granted all associated promotions and Titles. The Outpost stores will therefore not show these Titles available for purchase.

Sea Forts

  • The new Sea Forts are currently in an early stage of development, and the environmental geometry is still considered work in progress. Players may therefore discover invisible walls and uneven flooring while navigating the Forts, and a range of mechanisms may not yet be functional. Phantoms encountered during the encounter can also move between floors and can become stuck in the environment during combat.
  • Sea Fort encounters are currently balanced for 1-2 player crews and do not yet support dynamic difficulty scaling based on crew size.
  • Phantoms defeated within the Sea Fort do not drop the required key needed to access the upper storage room door – this will be made available in a future Insider’s update.
  • Once a Sea Fort is cleared and the Treasuries raided, the Fort doors do not currently lock when the Fort resets, allowing crews access to the Treasuries once again.

Legend of the Veil

  • Veil Stones slotted into the Veil of the Ancients can become invisible after a player’s death or upon disconnecting. This is visual only and does not affect the ability to complete or progress on the Voyage.
  • Crews migrating servers during the Voyage can cause various issues preventing progress.

Fixed Issues

General

  • Players disconnecting and rejoining the game with treasure stored in a Sunken Merfolk Statue will now once again be able to retrieve it from the surface.

Shrouded Islands

  • Players approaching Belle from directly behind her will now see her raise her lantern during her animation.

Sea Forts

  • Some sitting spots that caused players to clip through the environment have now been removed.
  • Players should no longer find areas where they can see through holes in the upper Fort walls.
  • Sea Forts within a storm or fog bank will no longer show rain or fog effects inside the fort interior.

Legend of the Veil

  • The Pirate Lord should now appear consistently on all ship sizes during cutscenes.
  • The Pirate Lord should no longer be seen holding the Veil of the Ancients while it is still attached to the ship.
  • Detached visual effects should no longer be seen during the Pirate Lord’s various cutscenes.
  • Subtitles for the Pirate Lord now display consistently and are in sync with the voice over.
  • During the Pirate Lord’s cutscenes, associated audio effects now play at the correct times.
  • All Athena’s Fortune treasure items now have appropriate pirate phrases.

Legend of the Veil – Shipwreck Graveyards

  • The Shipwreck Graveyard can no longer be bypassed by swimming into the cabin without needing the door key.
  • Improved textures around holes within the Galleon’s hull to better match those used elsewhere on the ships.

Legend of the Veil – Haunted Islands

  • The ancients summoned during the ritual are no longer able to be damaged and killed by players.
  • Players can no longer override the Enchanted lantern with the Flames of Fate collected from the Ferry of the Damned.
  • Players are now unable to light the braziers with a regular lantern.

Visual and Audio

  • Pets no longer stop dancing if one musician in a band stops playing.
  • Players will no longer experience rubber-banding when attempting to move diagonally with a keyboard when afflicted by a limp.
  • When the Skeleton Fort at Shark Fin Camp is active, the crews descending to the Shrine of Hungering should no longer hear overlapping music within the Shrine.
  • The shop and vanity chest icons for the Eyepatch of the Silent Barnacle now better match the items colour scheme.

Environment

  • Retrieving treasure from a Sunken Merfolk statue within the Shrine of Sunken Shores should no longer place items where players cannot retrieve them.

Performance and Stability

  • Server stability has been improved, reducing scenarios where crews are removed from a game session.
