Insider Patch Notes - Update 1.4.5.4
Following your feedback we've been hard at work on Tall Tales: Shroudbreaker. We're now reintroducing Shroudbreaker into the Insider Build with a suite of updates and improvements for you to get stuck into.

Tall Tales!
- Tall Tales: Shroudbreaker – Reactivating this Tale for our Insiders following a round of iteration and feedback! Shroudbreaker is the first Tall Tale that players will have access to when we release our Mega Update to Retail and will require players to complete before unlocking access to subsequent Tales in this Volume. This Tale taken from any Mysterious Stranger across the world, introduces the legend of the Shroudbreaker a story told by the Pirate Lord himself! Head to your nearest Outpost Tavern and find a new Tale book placed beside the Mysterious Stranger to begin their Tale.
- Puzzle Vaults - Puzzle Vaults are currently under heavy iteration in the studio, adding the necessary Audio and Visual cues required to ensure it's clear what is expected of the player. New effects have been added to the Vaults in this build, and further iteration is ongoing for upcoming builds.
- Shroudbreaker Puzzle Vault Sequence - When progressing through the Shroudbreaker, on completion of the Puzzle Vault pirates must take on a new puzzle, introduced by an island image appearing on the Vault Table. This image is currently placeholder, however pirates must use this information to further progress the tale.
- Showing your Quest Book – When showing your Quest Book to other pirates the book will now pitch as your camera moves.
The Arena
- New Contest Areas - 3 New Contest Areas have been added that we are looking for focus testing on. Try your hand at 'Leave Us A Lone', 'Spoiling For A Fight', and 'Kraken's Brawl'.
- Contest Boundaries - The Devils Shroud arena spawn points have been moved back so players have more time to turn around before the devil’s shroud.
- Contest Balancing - The recipes for the maps in contests have been updated following feedback. Several variations to the amount of X’s that spawn on all types of islands and there is now more chance of getting a ‘jackpot’ island.
- Arena Tutorial - An Arena tutorial video now plays after progressing through the front end arena just after crew select.
Updates!
- Yoink! – You can now pinch most wieldable items our of a player’s hands using the harpoon!
- Tutorial Tweaks – The wording during the new player tutorial has been improved.
- Xbox One S Improvements – Performance for the Xbox One S has been improved.
Fixed Issues
General
- Treasure dropped from a harpoon launcher onto land now behaving as expected
- Barrels of plenty attached to harpoon launchers no longer refill
- Damage decals now appear as expected on damaged Masts
- Player is no longer able to place items on galleon's map
- Parrot ship cosmetics now apply correctly when equipped
- Parrot Hurdy Gurdy no longer rotates in the characters hands while being played
- AI Threats can now hear harpoon launcher fire.
- There is no longer a chance when loading into the game, that a player’s model or clothing may become corrupted and display an incorrect texture.
Adventure
- Players will now hear audio when using island capstans
- Meat dropped by fauna will now be correctly placed on the floor
- Sunlight reflections are no longer present in underwater caves that have no access to the sun
- Text appears as expected for Plentifins and Wreckers on summary reputation page
- Bait equipping now works as expected after the line snaps
- Leeches, Earthworms and Grubs icons now have the correct colour
- Icon imagery in the vanity chest now displaying as expected when no curses are active
Arena
- Scoreboard reward no longer sticking on screen
- Banners are no longer missing from the vendor ships
Known Issues
- Shopping in Arena - Arena Store NPCs may intermittently be unable to return their inventory on Xbox or you may be unable to purchase ranks from Lesedi or DeMarco.
- Reaching Tribute Peak – Insiders have found various ways to reach Tribute Peak, these will soon be removed once the supporting Tale is ready for testing.
- Extended Black Screen on Loading - There is a chance that players may be held indefinitely on the Black Loading Screen with Spinner when returning from the Ghost Ship.
- Sword Combo using the Environment - When attacking a player against a wall, you will no longer trigger the 3-hit combo when hitting the player and the wall simultaneously.
- Questbook Page Turning - When using rebound Q, E, Left D-Pad or Right D-Pad buttons, you are unable to turn pages on a Tall Tales Quest Book. To workaround this please reset your keys to default.
Insider Features Still Active
- Tall Tales: Stars of a Thief – This Tale picks up after Cursed Rogue and follows the journey of an eccentric star gazer and his hunt for an ancient stone. Head to the North Star Sea Post to find a new Tale book placed on beside the shipwright to begin this Tale.
- Tall Tales: The Cursed Rogue – Reactivated this Tall Tale for our Insiders! This Tale follows the legend of a Skeleton Lord who was once a humble treasure seeker like yourself. Can you solve the puzzles left behind and track down this elusive character? Head to Madame Olive at Plunder Outpost to find a new Tale book placed beside her.
- Tall Tales: The Legendary Storyteller – Reactivated this Tall Tale for our Insiders! This Tale follows the doodling's of a young girl, regaled with stories from a Legendary pirate. Head to Tasha at Ancient Spire Outpost to find a new Tale book placed beside her to begin her story.
- Tall Tales: Wild Rose – Reactivated this Tall Tale for our Insiders! This Tale follows the story of two lovers, last seen by Madame Olive. Head to Madame Olive at Sanctuary Outpost to find a Tale book placed beside her to begin their story.
- Tall Tales: Art of the Trickster – This Tale follows the path of a wicked Trap Maker, who has been experimenting with a range of devious traps to test pirates. Head to Salty on the beach at Plunder Valley to find a new Tale book placed beside him to begin this Tale.
- Tall Tales: Revenge of the Morningstar – This Tale follows the last known whereabouts of a crew lost at sea, can you trace their steps? Head to Sandra at Dagger Tooth Outpost to find a new Tale book placed on her table.
- Vengeance – After dying, players returning from the Ghost Ship will have a period of invulnerability while on their ship. This Temporary Invincibility will last for 30 seconds or until the player leaves the ship. For the duration of the invincibility players will appear with a ghostly green glow, will be unable to be stunned by sword strikes, however can be knocked back by explosives and cannon fire. This change will provide the defenders a temporary advantage against potential attackers to turn the fight.
- Hunters Call Reputation Page – The Hunters Call Reputation page has now been added, cataloguing players achievements within the new company.
- Cook those animals! – Killing animals and monsters found out in the world now drops raw meat, ready for cooking! There is a rare chance that meat may also be found in resource barrels around the world.
- You’ll need Bait! – There is now a chance to find bait for fishing in resource barrels, some rare fish will require bait before they can be caught!
- Resource Inventory Limits – The Resources Inventory now shows each of the resource limits at the top of the inventory grid for Cannonball, Cursed Cannonballs, Food, Wood & Bait.
- Death Camera – When you are defeated in the Arena you will now fall to your knees and your camera will slowly spin above and away from your body. This feature is specific to arena to help crews communicate during death.
- Removal of Ghost Ship - Due to the new arena death flow we have removed the ghost ship from the arena. When players are defeated in the arena, they will no longer be sent to the Ghost Ship and be required to walk through the door to return, bringing you back to the action sooner.
- Contest Duration – Contests have now been changed to last 24 minutes.
- Score Scroll UI - The score scroll emblem in the map radial is now updated with the sea dog’s emblem.
- Contest Boundary - The devils shroud around the contest boundary once again matches the adventure damage and range.
- Ship Map Table UI - The emblems for the sea dog vendor cash in points on the ships map table are now reduced in size and golden.
- Animated Page Turning - When reading through a Quest Book, players will now actually turn the pages!
- Beware, Traps! – The Trap Maker has begun laying booby traps in a number of caves across the world, tread lightly and keep your wits about you!
- Environment Sword Comboing - When striking with your sword, hitting the environment will no longer trigger a 3-hit combo chain.
- Something on the Horizon - You may notice a mysterious landmass beyond the Devil’s Shroud. A new island or something more sinister, perhaps?
- Feeling chatty? – You will hear new dialogue lines when interacting with specific characters.
- Merging Reward Notifications - When cashing in multiple treasure at once, UI toast popups will now combine the rewards and show a single popup rather than queuing them individually.
- Voyage Voting - With the introduction of Tall Tales, crews can venture out with both a current Voyage and a Tall Tale active at the same time. Once started these can be found and cancelled from the Captain's Table.
- Harpoon - After all the waiting, the Shipwrights have finally delivered the Harpoons we ordered! Each Ship now has two Harpoons fitted in the recesses on the bow; latch onto rival crews in the heat of battle or onto the environment for some advanced sailing tactics. This initial build delivers the base functionality, reeling-in objects coming soon!
- Grab those Barrels! - Harpoons can now latch onto floating barrels found out at sea and will automatically pull them to the ship to be raided for resources, before being dropped back into the sea.
- Get that Treasure! - Harpoons can now latch onto Treasure of any type (Chests, Skulls, Crates, etc.) whether floating out at sea, or placed on islands. When latched they will automatically pull them to the ship to be collected by your crew.
- I’m really bad at this - Harpoons when fired now have a small aim assist to help players hit their target, this is especially helpful when trying to steal a chest out of another players hands!
- Harpoon the Keg! - Harpoons will now explode gunpowder barrels on first hit. Hitting kegs carried by players will also cause them to explode!
- Harpoon Players – Latching onto a crewmate or rival player with the harpoon now retracts them back to your ship.
- Harpoon Retraction Speed – Reduced the speed in which harpoons can retract once latched on.
- Harpoon Spinners – Harpoons now have spinners attached to better visualise the spooling and reeling of the rope.
- Feel the impact – We’ve added more tactility to using harpoons. You’ll now feel a rumble when a Harpoon impacts and a camera shake when re-docking the harpoon projectile.
- Spools of war – The spool of the harpoon launcher now rotates with the movement of the rope.
- Harpoon Audio – Attached various Harpoon audio effects to improve the player feedback when using the Harpoon.
- Fruit & Meat – With the expansion of various different culinary delights available to pirates, both Fruit and Meat have had their health balanced across the range. You’ll find your trusty Banana now is less satisfying, however more rare fruits return a large amount of health.
- Health Regeneration – With Fruit replenishing a base level of health, you’d expect a nice cooked piece of meat to do much more right? Cooking the perfect steak will provide players with a period of health regeneration, this is shown as a ring around your health bar in the bottom left corner. Now you can stock up with various meats while out on your voyage and then cook up a meal before engaging in battle for that extra edge on your rivals!
- Barrel Inventory – The Barrel Inventory has now been redesigned to show a 4x4 grid of items rather than a 3x4 grid.
- Ship Damage - Hull Holes - When targeting shots into your enemy’s hull, repeated shots in the same place will now grow the size of the damage holes. These new holes vary in size and increase the rate in which your ship fills with water and takes longer to repair!
- Ship Damage - Collapse the Mast - Landing a clutch shot on an enemies Mast will now drop the mast onto the deck of the ship, slowing their speed. Your enemies will need to both raise the mast and patch it with wood to secure it back in place.
- Ship Damage - Drop the Anchor - Targeting a shot onto the Capstan will drop the anchor and damage the Capstan pegs. Your enemy will need to repair their capstan pegs to retain its original raising speed.
- Ship Damage - Disable the Wheel - Targeting an enemy’s wheel will destroy pegs within the wheel, reducing the effectiveness in turning the Ship. Your enemy will need to repair their Ship wheel pegs to retain its original turning rate.
- Shop Browsing - Finding a specific category of item is now much easier in the shop, filters have been added to all shops.
- PC High Dynamic Range - Support for HDR compatible Screens on PC. Players can access a 'HDR Calibration' page with Settings to calibrate the Brightness of the display.
