Insider Patch Notes 3.5.3.1

Insider Update 3.5.3.1 is now live and returns to previewing features for upcoming releases. The Devil’s Roar now features deadly Eternal Guard encounters, boosted regional sell values, new Smugglers’ Message in a Bottle Voyages and updated Skull of Siren Song server migration rules.

If you encounter any bugs while playing in Insiders, please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and report an issue with our Player Support team.

Season 18: Secrets of the Banished

The Eternal Guard

  • Across The Devil’s Roar, pirates can now encounter a vicious new enemy – the Eternal Guard. Crews scouring the volcanic islands will discover ancient sarcophagi, and after performing a summoning ritual will bring forth this ferocious new combatant.

  • The Eternal Guard use ancient magic to move around the battlefield and stalk their target. They are invulnerable whilst moving, so crews should keep an eye on their surroundings and look for the telltale sights and sounds of a Guard readying their attack.

  • Once ready to attack, the Eternal Guard will cross the veil to take mortal form and strike with devastating attacks from their blowpipe, spears and poison bombs before returning to the shadows.

  • The Eternal Guard can summon Banished Ancient Skeletons to defend themselves during a difficult encounter.

  • Upon defeat, the Guard will release a powerful shockwave – stay back! Pirates defeating these ancient enemies will be rewarded with a Sanctuary Key to unlock nearby Sanctuaries of the Banished.

Selling within The Devil’s Roar

  • Crews venturing into The Devil’s Roar will be handsomely rewarded for their efforts by the local Trading Companies and Smugglers. Cashing in within The Devil’s Roar will now offer boosted gold and reputation depending on the representative.

  • Characters at Morrow’s Peak will now mention increased payouts for selling in the region when speaking to them.

Sanctuaries of the Banished

  • The Ship’s Map Table now shows which islands within The Devil’s Roar have uncovered a Sanctuary of the Banished.

The Smugglers’ League

  • New Smugglers’ League contacts within The Devil’s Roar are now included as potential delivery sites for Smuggler Message in a Bottle Voyages.

Gameplay Improvements

Migrating Crews from Failed Encounters

  • Crews are no longer able to simply begin a Skull of Siren Song Voyage to avoid being migrated away to a new server after subsequent losses.

  • Crews actively participating in the Skull of Siren Song Voyage however will be exempt and therefore will not be migrated away to a new server should they sink multiple times while actively taking part in the Voyage.

Performance Improvements

  • This update includes further system-level optimisations to CPU performance across the whole experience. This improvement will improve loading behind the scenes with the aim of providing a smoother framerate when approaching islands, ships and other players in the world.

Known Issues

The Eternal Guard

  • The Eternal Guard may become stuck in environmental geometry or slip beneath the map during combat.

  • The Eternal Guard may appear largely invisible if a player re-joins after force-closing the game while migrating to the Ferry of the Damned.

  • The Eternal Guard may behave erratically, moving back and forth without progressing.

  • Using a Lure Dart can cause the Eternal Guard to stop moving and repeatedly attack the dart instead of engaging normally.

  • Creating a new Pirate Profile now works as expected.
