Insider Update 3.5.0.1 is now live. This build now returns to previewing features which will release in future updates. Insiders can test out improvements to Act 2’s Heist along with the addition of increased Field of View options.

If you encounter any bugs while playing in Insiders, please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and report an issue with our Player Support team.

Season 17: Smugglers' Tide

Heist of Royal Crest Fortress Improvements

  • Crews in possession of the Painting will now be able to hide the visibility of the Map Marker shown to other crews when holding the painting or by stashing it onboard a ship.

  • The Painting will no longer display a Map Marker before it has been discovered.

  • The Painting must now be handed in to a specific Smuggler listed on a note players will receive in their Quest radial once the Painting is in their possession.

  • Crews with a stolen Painting onboard will now be threatened by Ocean Crawlers on their journey. The size of the threat will scale based on the size of the crew in possession of the Painting.

  • The rewards found within the Fortress’s Storeroom have been improved. Crews will now find a Horn of Fair Winds and an Obsidian Ashen Winds Skull, along with a fine assortment of Bone Callers, Firebombs and Cannon of Rage.

Reaper Fortresses Balancing

  • The accuracy of Ghost Ships circling the Fort during the encounter has been slightly reduced.

Gameplay Improvements

Improved Field of View

  • Players can now extend their Field of View above the previous limit up to 110, providing a range of wider view options for players to choose from.

  • Players using interactions like their ships’ cannons or wheel would already find their view moved to the default FOV when in use. Players who choose to play above 90 FOV will find this follows the same approach and when using these interactions their view is moved to the default FOV.

  • Improvements have been made to the Eye of Reach when aiming down sights, providing a consistent zoom level across the entire Field of View range. As part of this change, players using an FOV between 78 and 90 will also now see an improved zoom range when aiming down sights.

Ashen Skull of the Banished

  • The Ashen Search for Ancient Secrets Voyage in the Devil’s Roar now rewards players with the new Ashen Skull of the Banished, replacing the Skull of the Banished in this Voyage.

Ashen Chest of Bones

  • The Ashen Followers of the Flame Voyage now rewards players with an Ashen Chest of Bones, offering higher value than the Chest of Bones.

  • The Ashen Chest of Bones retains the same number of charges as a Reaper’s Chest, but will not reinforce crews with Order of Bone and Blade Captains.

Displaying Trophy Tiers

  • Captains who have earned multiple tiers of a Trophy are now able to decorate their ship with all previous tiers when interacting with a trinket location.

Skull of Siren Sorrow

  • Players are now able to sprint when holding the Skull of Siren Sorrow.

Underwater Animation Improvements

  • Players swimming in water and making quick changes to their pitch and rotation will now find their character moves more smoothly when seen by others.

  • These changes aim to reduce the impact of players making fast movements with their Mouse or Controller to avoid damage during gunplay underwater.

Rowboat Seat Improvements

  • Players using a rowboat seat can now use secondary interact to switch to a third person view for improved visibility.

Known Issues

Smugglers’ Heist of Royal Crest Fortress
