Insider Update 3.4.2.2 is now live. As the team continue to deliver improvements to the Season 17 features, the focus for this Insider update is on the recent improvements to the Heist, Skeleton Ships and Black Powder Barrels.
As always, if you encounter any bugs, please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.
Heist of Royal Crest Fortress Improvements
Once a crew collects the painting, a new Voyage Note is shared with all other crews taking part in the Heist – revealing all of the Smugglers’ Hideout locations.
Crews approaching Royal Crest Fortress will find they are now fired upon by the Fort’s cannons.
A Reaper Rowboat has been added to the lower areas to provide pirates with a swift getaway.
Smuggling Skeleton Ships
Black Powder Barrels
Crews can now encounter skeletons wielding Black Powder Barrels emergently on islands.
Detonating a Black Powder Barrel on a Skeleton Ship now deals less damage to the hull, with a 15% reduction in total damage dealt.
The knockback to pirates from Black Powder Barrel explosions has been increased by 10%.
A new fuse effect has been added to Black Powder Barrels, making it easier to spot when they’re about to blow.
Explosions from Black Powder Barrels now provide improved rumble feedback when using a controller.
Temporary Voyage Locking
Functionality allowing specific Voyages to be locked or temporarily restricted has been re-enabled following a fix for a previously identified issue. This system is designed to help prevent exploitative behaviour without requiring game updates or downtime.
In this build, restrictions are being tested across several scenarios. Insiders can visit the Forums for full details on the specific Voyages and scenarios to test.
Performance Counters
Players on console now have the ability to display their ping in the top corner of the screen. This can be enabled from the Video Settings.
Players on PC can now choose to display ping only, without displaying their FPS at the same time.
Heist of Royal Crest Fortress
As this feature is still early in development, it contains a range of placeholder assets. These placeholder elements do not require feedback.
The gold values provided when handing in items from the Heist are currently placeholder and are not representative of the final design.
Smugglers’ Caches
The Smugglers’ version of the Rum Crate doesn’t currently move while being carried, doesn’t fully smash when broken and doesn't show any damage messaging.
Some items may appear to float in mid-air at Smugglers’ Bay.
Rum items may appear incorrectly positioned when players are crouching.
Gameplay
Interaction prompts on Cannons of Rage have been repositioned, making it easier to select the correct option, especially when trying to use the cannon.
Skeletons that move servers during the Followers of the Flame Voyage are now properly recognised by the chest, allowing it to be sealed as intended.
Pirate Profiles
Default Pirate Profile names now display correctly instead of showing placeholder text.
Captained Ships are now correctly linked to their owner's Pirate Profile.
Guilds now appear correctly for each Pirate Profile.
The Guild Member list now displays the full number of allowed members.
Player Titles now sit correctly within their designated area on the Pirate Tab, resolving text overflow and display issues.
The artwork for the Pirate Deed Bundle in the 'Browse All' section of the Pirate Emporium is now properly aligned.
Heist of Royal Crest Fortress
The Flame of the Fortress key now rests naturally in the player's hand when held, without merging into it.
Crews should now consistently be able to find a Skeleton Key when searching the Fortress during the Heist.
Smugglers’ Shipwrecks
The Skull of Sorrow now features the correct materials, with both the emerald eye and purple coral details displaying properly.
Items inside the Captain’s Quarters of Smugglers’ Shipwrecks no longer appear floating above the floor when above water.
The correct Skull of Siren Sorrow now appears in Smugglers’ Shipwrecks instead of the Skull of Siren Song.
Environment
Visual and Audio
During the Search for Ancient Secrets Voyage, the pillar glow now remains after returning from the Ferry of the Damned.
The Reaper's Bones Skull cosmetic no longer stretches or distorts during emotes due to distance changes.
The Grog Shaker Emote now plays its full shaking sound effects rather than cutting off early.
