Insider Update 3.4.2.1 is now live. In this update, Insiders can visit new Smugglers’ Hideouts, battle Skeleton Ships carrying rare loot and enjoy improved melee hit registration and controller keybind options.
As always, if you encounter any bugs, please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.
Smugglers’ Hideouts
While some audio, dialogue, traps and interactions within the hideouts are clearly still using placeholders, head to the Forums for guidance on how to feedback on this new feature.
Smuggling Skeleton Ships
Skeleton Ships have recovered valuable Smugglers’ League treasure items and weapons and are now stockpiling them onboard.
Skeleton Ships are now guaranteed to have a Black Powder Barrel aboard, and have a high chance of carrying rare items like Gold Rum Crates, Siren Skulls and Ashen Winds Skulls.
Both the roaming and aggressive Skeleton Sloops or Galleons encountered on the seas contain these new Smugglers’ League treasures.
Smugglers’ Caches
Smugglers’ Caches washed ashore now include a variety of storage crates containing multiple resources in place of single items.
Smugglers’ Caches now have a chance to include the Skull of Siren Sorrow.
Black Powder Barrels
Hit Registration Improvements on Animals
Improved Controller Keybinds
Players on Controller now have the ability to use separate keybinds for Cycle Weapons and Secondary Interact, preventing accidental actions while navigating the world.
These keybinds can be customised in the Controller Settings Menu, with the default remaining on Y on Xbox Controllers and Triangle on DualSense® Controllers, and can be reset to default if changed at any time.
Insider NDA Removal
A new watermark is now shown when playing Sea of Thieves in Insiders to clearly indicate that it is a work-in-progress build. Players should ensure this watermark always remains visible when creating videos or streaming content related to the Insider build.
The old watermark containing the build number and the user’s gamertag has now been removed.
Pirate Profiles
A Guild may appear linked to the wrong Pirate Profile, and access to the correct one could be lost.
The Guild Member list may not show all Members if the Guild is near its size limit.
On PlayStation®5, switching between Pirate Slots may not update the pirate preview as expected.
An error may appear if players quickly select a pirate while changing pages within the carousel.
Accepting an invite while on the Pirate Tab might not work until the player leaves the tab.
Captained ships may be shown under the incorrect profile, which can prevent the player from accessing them.
Purchasing a Pirate Deed through the Pirate Profile screen may not currently work.
Gameplay
Ships that are beached in shallow waters around islands can now be consistently sunk by rival crews. Once sufficient damage has been dealt to a ship, even if the ship is unable to fill with water it will be considered sunk and destroyed.
Further improvements have been made to Merchant Alliance and Hunter’s Call vendors around players purchasing and retrieving resources from their stores.
Voyages pinned to the ship’s mast now requires players to be much closer and facing the Voyage before being able to interact with it, preventing accidental use.
Completing the Search for Ancient Secrets Voyage now awards Reaper’s Bones reputation as expected.
Ashen Lords in combat will now continue to attack players actively using a nearby cannon.
Skeletons should no longer start following friendly players when the Unsealed Reaper’s Chest isn’t nearby.
Explosive barrels on Reaper Rowboats should now remain safe when travelling through migration tunnels.
Allied Order of Bone and Blade Skeletons knocked back by geysers will now stay focused on leading players, rather than investigating the geyser.
Black Powder Barrels
Smugglers’ Caches
The Skull of Siren Song should no longer have a chance to be found inside Smugglers’ Caches.
Islands once again contain both large and medium Smugglers’ Caches.
Items found in Smugglers’ Caches no longer duplicate after leaving and returning to an island.
Pirate Profiles
Selecting a pirate from the carousel should no longer cause performance issues.
The Pirate Tab options can now be selected without causing issues.
The selected pirate indicator now updates correctly when switching between pirates.
Theme previews now match correctly between the mini and full-size views.
After purchasing a Pirate Deed or Appearance Potion for the first time, players can now immediately buy another without needing to restart the game.
Setting a main pirate from the second page or beyond no longer causes the menu to jump back to the first page.
The confirmation message when using multiple Pirate Deeds now uses plural wording.
Buying a Pirate Deed Bundle followed by a single Pirate Deed now adds both to the player’s account.
Selected Titles now display properly on the Pirate Tab.
Friends with multiple profiles in the same Guild can now be invited without issue.
Environment
Visual and Audio
Empty Chests of Bones now visually match empty Reaper’s Chests.
The bone shower visual effect now plays correctly when Order of Bone and Blade Skeletons appear.
The ‘Speak No Evil’ tile artwork within the Pirate Emporium now displays at the correct size.
The red visual effect no longer lingers at the chest’s original location after it’s picked up during the Followers of the Flame Voyage.
