Insider Update 3.3.1.1 is now live. With March’s update now taken, Insiders returns to previewing features for upcoming releases with Season 15, Season 16 and Festival of Fishing features now re-enabled for testing.
As always, if you encounter any bugs, please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.
A Tracker’s Megalodon Hunt
The Shrouded Glass and Hunter’s Note are now provided at the start of the Voyage, helping players track the Megalodon more easily.
The Megalodon now appears at all encounter sites, with difficulty scaling based on crew size.
The Shrouded Glass now features improved on-screen prompts, the spyglass’ cap now reflects the zoom mode currently in effect, and new music cues enhance encounters.
Festival of Fishing
Recipe Adjustments: Fewer hand-ins are required, and dish selection is now based on previous course ingredients.
Tracking Fixes: Hand-ins now track correctly even after diving, and undercooked meat is accepted when cooking is required.
Visual Updates: Art has been added to the Connoisseur of Culinary Craft title and Merrick’s Menu radial wheel.
Insiders should be aware that the testing fish has changed from the Ruby Splashtail to the Umber Splashtail, though its rarity may limit catches.
While game performance has been the recent focus area for the Game Health team, they are now beginning to look at other areas of the experience for improvement. The first of these is addressing a number of physics-based movement exploits. For more context on these, head to the feedback thread.
Movement Exploits
Players finding ways for their pirate to become stuck inside moving parts of the ship will no longer find that they are ejected through the air at abnormal speed. They will still be bumped out of the pinch point, but should no longer be able to gain an advantage from this scenario.
Players attempting to get their pirate stuck inside moving areas of the environment like island lifts should no longer find that they are ejected through the air.
Improved Reaper’s Chests
Reaper Cannon of Rage
Players can currently fire a Reaper Cannon of Rage through the back window of a Galleon.
Skeleton Mercenaries
When shown a Bounty or X Marks the Spot Map for another island, Skeleton Mercenaries attempt to lead players to that location.
Skeleton Mercenaries do not assist with player-buried treasure maps.
Gameplay
Boar Hunting Voyage
Voyage wallows are now removed when a crew cancels the Voyage.
Loot holes around wallows are now slightly raised and no longer merge into the ground.
Boars no longer float, flee for a shorter time and return to the wallow more frequently.
Boars can now attack players who are hiding or crouching.
The Voyage will now complete as expected, even if a player dies before killing the boar.
Skeleton Mercenaries
Hunting Spear
The throwing animation now correctly plays in third-person view when aiming and throwing a spear.
The sound effect for removing a spear from a ship’s hull now loops properly when cancelling and restarting the action quickly.
Impact visual and sound effects now appear correctly when a hunting spear enters a tier 5 damage hole, even when viewed from inside the ship.
The sound effect for spears hitting ships is now clearer and no longer muffled.
Megalodon Voyage
A Megalodon now consistently appears at the first interval site when diving to the Voyage.
Loot at spawn sites now appears correctly in subsequent Megalodon Voyages.
Loot items now stay afloat longer instead of sinking too quickly.
The field of view zoom for the Shrouded Glass has been updated, along with a smoother vignette transition speed.
Visual and Audio
The camera no longer merges into the barrel when zooming in during the Cut the Cake Emote.
The Magpie’s Glory Pocket Watch thumbnail now displays the dial in the correct orientation.
