Insider Patch Notes 3.3.0.5

Insider Update 3.3.0.5 is now live. Skeleton Mercenaries can now assist in finding bounty targets and riddle map locations, while jellyfish have been introduced along island coastlines. The Festival of Fishing returns with boosted rewards, and new items have arrived in the Pirate Emporium.

As always, if you encounter any bugs, please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.

Reapers Rising

Skeleton Mercenaries

  • Skeleton Mercenaries, which can now be found on all large Islands, have gained the ability to assist players in locating bounty targets and riddle map locations. These allies will lead players and help navigate the island, ensuring treasure or bounty targets can be found more efficiently.

Wild Seas

Jellyfish

  • Players will now discover jellyfish while navigating around island coastlines, expanding the range of passive wildlife found across the seas.

Hunting Spear

  • A thrown spear will now do increased damage to all island animals, sea threats, Skeleton Lords, Skeleton Captains and Ocean Crawlers.

  • The range of the hunting spear’s quick throw has been slightly increased, throwing the spear further.

Lizards

  • New lizards have been introduced to Shiver Retreat.

Live Events

Festival of Fishing

  • Fish Multiplier: Fish can be handed in to receive double gold and reputation.

  • Time-Limited Voyage: A Hunter's Rare Fishing Map can be played during the Festival of Fishing, making the most of the Fish Multiplier.

Updates

Outpost Trap Restrictions

  • Traps are now able to be placed in and around the Outpost taverns, allowing crews to lie in wait for unsuspecting players.

  • Players triggering a nearby trap when arriving in the tavern at the start of their session however will remain unharmed as players will not take damage while ‘waking up’.

Performance Improvements

  • Following the work to rebuild the various ship types, ships arriving on a server after diving or naturally through server migration are now loaded in sections to improve performance.

Performance Management

  • A new management system is now in operation on the server, controlling the activation of certain events and encounters to ensure that the server has the necessary resources to safely operate the activity.

  • Encounters with an emergent Megalodon are now controlled by this system, with further events to follow.

Known Issues

Trap Restrictions

  • Players will currently be prevented from placing traps above the stairs descending to the Athena’s Fortune Hideout, however this will be permitted in a future Insider update.

Skeleton Mercenaries

  • Duplicate Skeleton Mercenaries may appear when leaving and returning to an island.

  • After revival, Skeleton Mercenaries may remain in their wander or idle animations for a while after being asked for map assistance.

  • Skeleton Mercenaries may wander for long periods if they cannot find a path to the player while trying to lead them.

Reaper Cannon of Rage

  • Direct shots from a cannonball on a deployed Reaper Cannon will not currently trigger overheat, however this is intended.

  • The Reaper Cannon of Rage will not consistently be overheated by damage when onboard a moving ship.

Fixed Issues

Gameplay

  • Commendation progress for defeating the Ancient Megalodons is now awarded to all crews participating in the encounter by dealing damage, not just the crew that lands the final hit.

  • Melee attacks from a throwing knife below the deck of the ship should no longer appear to hit an invisible surface in various locations.

  • Seagulls will no longer appear alongside ships while in a storm.

Hunting Spear

  • Players can now charge a hunting spear even if they begin charging without aiming.

  • Skeleton crews can now remove spears lodged in their ships.

  • Hunting spears lodged into the hull of the Burning Blade can now be removed and no longer remain stuck after a crew pledges to Captain Flameheart.

  • Attempting to throw a hunting spear while naturally migrating to a new server should no longer cause the spear to disappear.

Boar Hunting Voyage

  • Boars now react to and are properly lured by the Lure Dart.

  • Enemies will now be distracted by a Lure Dart attached to a wild boar.

  • Treasure buried in boar wallows will now appear closer to the wallow itself.

  • Grand Boars now flee at the same speed as common boars.

  • Boars and wallows will now always appear when diving to a Boar Hunt and disappear properly when the Voyage is completed or cancelled.

  • Diving to a Boar Hunting Voyage now correctly places players at the intended island.

  • The text on the Boar Hunt Quest Map now fits properly within the map’s edges.

Fishing Voyage

  • Treasured Fish now move naturally when swimming towards the fishing float.

Megalodon Hunting Voyage

  • Megalodons hunted during a Voyage now take increased damage from hunting spears and reduced damage from explosions.

  • The shipwreck found at the end of the Voyage will no longer be destroyed prematurely if players move too far away after completing the Quest.

Reaper Cannon of Rage

  • Any Reaper Cannons active on a ship will now be moved to the new server during natural server migration and consistently removed from the originating server. This does not affect diving to Voyages or Faction battles which will still cause the cannon to be left behind with any other treasure.

  • Reaper Cannons of Rage can no longer be taken through the Tunnels of the Damned into a Tall Tale.

Visual and Audio

  • Players using the ship’s wheel on a Brigantine will no longer have their game chat muffled when speaking.

  • Multiple crews gathering to join the Legend of Glitterbeard will now find the visual effects light consistently with the music.

Performance and Stability

  • Improved server stability to avoid instances where players are disconnected from their session.
