Insider Patch Notes 3.1.2.1

Insider Update 3.1.2.1 is now live. In this Insider update, players can embark on a new adventure: a raid on a fortified Sea Fort! Additionally, Insiders can experiment with traps for the first time, using them to catch unsuspecting players off guard.

As always, if you encounter any bugs, please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.

Pirates of Mischief

Traps

  • Players can now deploy traps to catch unsuspecting enemies. These can now be found in various storage containers throughout the world and are considered a throwable, allowing players to hold five in their inventory.

  • Traps can be deployed on a flat surface and will subsequently arm themselves, becoming active. If an unsuspecting enemy approaches too closely, the trap will snap shut, dealing damage and causing a brief limp.

  • Deployed traps can be enhanced by adding an item such as Firebomb, Cursed Cannonball or Flares, triggering the effect when snapping shut. Crouching next to a deployed trap will summon the Trap Inventory allowing an item to be added.

  • Traps deployed on certain surfaces can be buried for a concealed surprise. Once the trap is set, use the shovel to bury it in dirt, sand or grass and it will be concealed from unsuspecting foes.

  • Any player discovering a trap can attempt to disarm it while crouching and can recover the trap for themselves to use.

The availability of traps has been increased in this Insider build to facilitate testing and is not representative of final balancing.

Lure Darts

  • The Lure Dart can be fired at a location and entices players with the subtle glint of nearby treasure, ready for a well-planned ambush.

  • Lure Darts will also attract enemy threats when fired, causing nearby enemies to pursue and attack the glittering lure.

  • Lure Darts fired into shallow water will also attract nearby sirens to the area.

Grapple Gun Balancing

  • When grappling onto a ship, players will no longer be granted the vault jump, preventing boarders from gaining an easy board from the sea. Be warned however, stealthy pirates can still grapple directly onto the ship’s ladder or onto the rear deck of the Galleon and sneak onboard!

  • While flying through the air at speed, attempting to fire a grapple line into a target such as a ship’s mast or deck is now a much more difficult trick shot that only the most daring pirates can achieve.

  • A range of locations across the Sea of Thieves have now been setup to prevent grappling in order to protect the gameplay experiences in those locations. Head to the Forums for more specific details on these changes.

Live Events

Fortified Sea Forts

  • The phantoms inhabiting Sea Forts have plundered a gigantic fortune and are protecting it with their lives! The phantoms have locked away their treasure in a cell at the very back of the Sea Fort's Treasury room. Players should complete all encounters to unlock the best rewards!

  • Additionally, there are two keys hidden around the Sea Fort instead of one, with the second key unlocking the cell downstairs to access bonus rewards. The Storeroom and Treasury also contain an increased amount of treasure.
