Insider Patch Notes 3.1.1.5

Insider Update 3.1.1.5 is now live. This update includes a suite of changes further fine tuning the Blunderbuss with player feedback alongside continued improvements to the Grapple Gun balancing ahead of Season 14’s launch in October.

This will be the last Insiders update previewing future features before we lock the feature set down for Septembers’ update so be prepared for us to enter stabilisation next week.

As always, if you encounter any bugs, please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.

Pirates of Mischief

Grapple Gun Balancing

  • After landing on the ground from a grapple, there is now a slight slowdown in the players’ movement and their ability to jump is removed, creating a window where they are vulnerable to counterattack.

  • Attempting to attach a grapple line through grates, bars or any other tight spaces a pirate wouldn’t fit through are now restricted and do not allow the pirate to pass through.

  • Pirates are now prevented from attaching a grapple line onto the rear canopy of the Sloop.

  • Players attaching a grapple line to a ladder will now automatically grab onto the ladder on arrival.

  • When aiming the Grapple Gun, the field of view has now been increased.

Gameplay Improvements

Blunderbuss Balancing

  • Following player feedback and further playtesting, the blunderbuss’ knockback has been tuned with a slight reduction in its power. The knockback trigger range has been brought in closer and the horizontal distance players are blasted back has also been reduced.

  • Alongside the closer trigger range, the knockback will now trigger when a player is hit with a single pellet increasing the consistency of knocking back a player when in range.

  • Players using a ship interaction like the ship’s wheel will now be braced from the knockback effects and will not receive the full knockback distance.

This Insiders build contains a set of balancing changes around knockback, however the visual effect for the knockback trigger range has not yet been updated to reflect the new balancing and will follow in a later update.

Throwing Knife Balancing

  • Following Insiders’ feedback, the recent increase to the damage of a thrown knife has now been reverted.

  • The improvements to responsiveness of aiming, throw speed and rumble softness are all still present in this update.
