Insider Update 3.1.1.1 is now live. In this update players have the opportunity to provide feedback about the Grapple Gun, coming in Season 14, as well as a new feature that locks the Armoury on enemy ships. This update also showcases the new Sirenfruit, allowing players to suppress their mermaid for up to one minute.
As always, if you encounter any bugs, please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.
Grapple Gun
The Armory now stocks the Grapple Gun which players can choose for one of their two loadout slots, replacing one of their combat-focused weapons with a traversal tool. This tool comes with 4 arrowheads and can be reloaded at any Ammo Crate.
The Grapple Gun can be wielded and aimed like any ranged weapon, however its arrowhead projectile serves a different purpose depending on its target.
Grappling onto a solid surface will propel the player towards that surface, rapidly accelerating before detaching on impact and launching the player upwards with a short vault jump. Players may find some locations are unable to be grappled onto for gameplay reasons.
Harpooning an item or player will pull it towards them. Items will be caught by the player once reeled in, while players will land in front of them – be warned!
Striking an enemy threat such as Skeletons, Phantoms or Sirens will deal damage to them.
This is an early preview of the Grapple Gun and this Insiders test will focus on the mechanics. The team are continuing to balance this new tool behind the scenes across a range of scenarios, including boarding and combat, with a priority on the experience of solo crews.
Locked Crew Armoury
The Armoury found onboard player ships will now only be accessible to that ship’s crew and not rival players from other crews. Rival players attempting to use another crew’s Armoury to change their loadout will now be prevented from accessing it.
Armouries found on Skeleton Ships or even the Burning Blade will continue to be available to all players even when the ship has been seized.
Sirenfruit
Players can now acquire Sirenfruit, a rare food item in storage containers across the Sea of Thieves. While this fruit can be eaten like any other food to recover health, when cooked the Sirenfruit is imbued with special properties.
A Sirenfruit cooked to perfection will glow brightly and be stored in a separate inventory apart from other foods to prevent accidental eating.
When a cooked Sirenfruit is consumed, a player will no longer receive the aid of the Merfolk when in the water for 1 minute. Players can consume additional Sirenfruit to extend the duration as required.
This is a very early preview of the Sirenfruit and currently does not have the intended supporting features, such as new capacity radial menu and effect countdown timer. The availability of Sirenfruit has also been increased in this Insiders builds to facilitate testing and is not representative of final balancing.
Crouching and Stealth
Following their recent removal due to a balancing focus in Insiders, crouching and stealth have now been returned in this Insiders update.
Players are now able to pick up treasure without exiting crouch. When they do so, the treasure will be stashed on the players back.
Emote Radial
Crouching & Stealth
Players attempting to sprint out of crouch will no longer find items becoming stuck to their hands.
Climbing into a cannon from crouch will no longer show the last held item when climbing out again.
