Insider Patch Notes 2.8.5.6
Insider Update 2.8.5.5 is now live. Competitive voyages are back and better than ever! The team have made several improvements to the flow of the voyage and now need your help to give it a go and let us know what you think. Will you claim victory, or will another crew sweep in at the last second and gain the advantage? It's all to play for on the Sea of Thieves!

Sea of Thieves On-Demand
Ghost Fleets on Demand
- Pirates will now be able to ‘Dive’ to Ghost Fleet Encounters direct from the Captain’s Table, expanding the choice of World Encounters available On Demand.
Mystery Voyages and Tall Tales
- Crews in need of some direction can choose to ‘Dive’ to Mystery Voyages and Tall Tales. Once selected and voted by the crew, they’ll begin a random Voyage or Tall Tale from their unlocked experiences.
Pirate Emporium
*The Legend of Monkey Island Sails *
- Sails created to honour the mighty pirate exploits of the one, the only… the Legend of Monkey Island!
*The Legend of Monkey Island Figurehead *
- Captain Capsize once threatened to use Guybrush as a replacement figurehead. Why not try it for yourself?
*Rubber Chicken Fishing Rod *
- Inspired by a useful traversal mechanism, this rod will soon have fish soaring through the air.
*Stan Costume Set *
- Show those shipwrights how to close a sale in style. Includes a unique emote and costume variants with or without Stan's hairstyle, hat and clean-shaven look.
- Players with this costume equipped will be able to perform the Sales Pitch costume emote.
*Kate Capsize Costume Set *
- Dress as the formidable Kate Capsize with a costume set that includes versions with or without her distinctive hairstyle and hat.
*Herman Costume Set *
- Embrace your inner castaway with a costume set inspired by Herman, which includes versions with or without his signature hat.
*Pocket Pet Serpent *
- Boast about your serpentine friend to your fellow pirates! Randomly performs one of four actions when selected.
*Freebie Emote: Lucky Deal *
- Is this your card? No? Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll get it next time.
*Fossil Frenzy Bundle (Store Only) *
- Wield beastly weapons, dress as an amber-touched antiquarian and light the way with this fossilised lantern! The Fossil Frenzy Bundle contains the Prehistoric Plunderer Costume, Lantern and weapons, along with 550 Ancient Coins to spend in the Pirate Emporium and a free bonus of 25,000 gold.

- The Outpost clothing stores now stock a range of new bandana colours – all available for Gold!
Known Issues
Guilds of Gold
- The player will currently not receive a notification when they have failed to start a Guild Session.
- The word ‘Anonymous’ will show instead of the player’s Gamertag when looking at the Set Sail entry in the Ship Chronicles in the fleet view.
- Sail Customisations do not appear correctly on Ship previews when you are on the Pledge Ship section of the Guild menu.
Pirate Emporium
- The Mad Monkey Ship Crest currently glows blue when equipped with the Lodestar Hull.
Fixed Issues
‘The Quest for Guybrush’
- After returning from the Sea of the Damned, players who drop treasure overboard will no longer find the items returned to their ship.
- Players should no longer find themselves disconnected from their session after finishing the circus trials.
- The Elixir of Unclouded Mind potion bottle will no longer display flashing effects when held in front of Corina’s portal.
Sea of Thieves: On Demand
- ‘Dark Brethren’- The Organ puzzle during the Dark Brethren Tall Tale now works as expected when diving to Chapter 2 of the Tale.
- The Merchant Medley voyage will now contain a Merchant Contract quest as intended.
- The books for Cursed Rogue, Legendary Storyteller and Heart of Fire will now appear closed on the ship’s quest table when the player is starting the Tall Tales from the beginning.
- The vault door on Kraken's Fall will now descend all the way to the floor when activated.
- Players are now able to propose to sail and dive to the "A Legendary Search for the Skull of Destiny" voyage.
- The cooldown timer now resets as intended after a player completes an event they have chosen to dive to.
Guilds of Gold
- Ship Chronicles will no longer show the owner of the ship instead of the person who set sail with the ship.
- The Distinction Level on the Guild Emblem will no longer disappear briefly when players receive the Guild Rep Increase notification.
- The View Guild button will now work as intended when using a controller on PC.
- The Guild level on Guild invite cards will no longer overlap the banner icon.
- Only ships pledged to a Guild will show a Guild plaque on their ship when viewing it through the View Ships menu.
- When selecting a guild member in the Manage Guild Members section, the selected Guild Member will remain highlighted when the dropdown menu is open.
- The Selected Guild will remain highlighted while the dropdown menu is open in the Guild Management menu.
Text and Localisation
- A Spelling mistake in one of the Ghost Ship Voyage names has now been corrected.
Performance and Stability
- Improvements to client stability, reducing scenarios where players are removed from their session.
