Insider Patch Notes 2.8.5.5
Insider Update 2.8.5.5 is now live. Competitive voyages are back and better than ever! The team have made several improvements to the flow of the voyage and now need your help to give it a go and let us know what you think. Will you claim victory, or will another crew sweep in at the last second and gain the advantage? It's all to play for on the Sea of Thieves!

Game Events
Legends Week 2023
- Our Legends Week event is now live as a preview in this Insider build for the team to run some additional behind-the-scenes testing ahead of Retail release. You can find more details in the Special Events tab under Pirate Log.
Competitive Voyages
Following Insider feedback, a number of changes have been made to competitive voyages. These changes aim to help reduce areas of friction and implement some improvements to help provide a smoother and more rewarding experience for players.
The Skull of Siren Song
- The Skull of Siren Song is now cursed! As soon as the chest is unlocked, and the skull is removed the skull’s curse will slow down any ship it is placed on. The amount a ship is slowed is different for each ship type, ensuring a balanced experience for all crews.
- Briggsy will now only appear on the final island when the Skull of Siren Song reaches the island.
- Briggsy’s location on the final island has been improved, ensuring she is much less tricky to find.
- While this Voyage is active, crews who lose their ship will find their ship restored nearby ensuring they stay in the action.
- The interaction key for the note has been changed to X on Controller or F on Keyboard, to prevent interference when cycling weapons.
Known Issues
Guilds of Gold
- ‘Anonymous’ shows instead of Gamertags when looking at ships that are out at sea in the Fleet view.
Fixed Issues
Competitive Voyages
- The skull can now only be sold to Briggsy and no other Trading Companies.
- The brightness of the glowing visual effects on the voyage items, including the note, have been reduced to avoid visibility issues.
‘The Quest for Guybrush’
- Players are now able to jump or run after moving down the mountain during the fog clearing sequence.
Sea of Thieves: On Demand
- When aligned to a faction, attempting to place and pick up a quest from the Captain's Table will no longer display invalid tooltips on the table.
Guilds of Gold
- Players are now unable to attempt to set sail on the same Guild Ship at the same time.
- Players will now receive the Guild Emissary tutorial notification when reaching level 15 as intended.
- The Guild level will no longer show as 0 on the Guild Rep Cards in the Pirate log when the player first loads in.
- Reaper Emissary Flags can no longer be handed in at the Sovereigns even when not part of the Guild Emissary.
- The Captaincy session will no longer end when a player migrates while sailing for a Guild.
- Guild Rep Cards will now show up correctly when first loading into a session.
- Players will no longer get error messages when they approach an Outpost when sailing for a Guild.
- The first time the Guild Rep Increase notification pops in a session it no longer starts at 1 and progresses until it reaches your level.
- The Restore my Guild Ship option is no longer showing in a Captained session and in the frontend for Captained ships.
- Viewing a Brig or Sloop that has a Hull livery with a special effect, will no longer cause subsequent Brigs/Sloops that the player has viewed to have the special effect applied to their Hull Livery.
- The Unbroken Bonds Flag displays the correct unlock requirement in game.
Captains of Adventure
- Crews are once again prevented from selling Reaper's Bones Emissary flags to the Sovereigns.
Visual and Audio
- Players hands no longer intersects through the Duke Wheel.
Performance and Stability
- Improved server stability to reduce instances where players are disconnected from their session whilst sailing as part of a Guild.
