Insider Patch Notes 2.6.0.1

Insider Update 2.6.0.1 is now live. A tantalising sneak peek at the upcoming Season Eight has just landed in the form of a PvP Matchmaking Technical Test! Hop aboard your ship, choose your faction and vote on the War Map to begin. ‘A Hunters Cry’ is also still available and with Merrick’s future at stake, so what are you waiting for? Speak to Larinna to get started.

As always, if you encounter any bugs, then please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.

Sea of Bones

An exciting Technical Test of Season Eight has arrived for initial Insider testing. This Technical Test focuses on the matchmaking process for bringing crews together across servers, for more information on the wider feature set arriving in Season Eight head to the Developer Update!

Matchmaking Technical Test

  • To get started, crews will first have to decide where their allegiance lies and use the Hourglass of Fate found on the Captain’s Table to flip between the two factions. Once a faction has been decided, unfurl the War Map on the Captain’s Table and vote with the crew to join the fight.
  • After sailing to open waters, once a suitable opponent of the same ship type has been found, prepare to dive beneath the waves and attack the enemy vessel.
  • Crews successful in their battle will continue their streak and begin searching for their next encounter. Crews who lose their encounter will be removed from the server and their faction choice reset, allowing them to begin again.

Adventures

‘A Hunter’s Cry’ is still available to players and is in its final testing stages getting ready for its launch in August.

‘A Hunter’s Cry’ Balancing

  • Speak to Larinna at any Outpost to begin the Adventure! On arrival in the Sea of the Damned, the Ghost Ships surrounding the tavern now fire less frequently at player ships.
  • Colliding with a Ghost Ship within the Sea of the Damned will now cause less damage to the ship’s hull.
  • While ascending the Sea Dogs Tavern, Phantoms will now ambush crews less frequently.
  • Ghostly Phantoms now spawn more regularly around the Lighthouses, posing more of a threat to players making their accent to the Lighthouse Beacon.

Known Issues

Sea of Bones Matchmaking Technical Test

  • The Sea of Bones matchmaking Technical Test is an early preview of an upcoming feature and contains a range of placeholder artwork, assets and text. The team are not looking for feedback on these placeholder areas of the experience.
  • Some crews may be unable to open the War Map. If this occurs, please leave the game and return.
  • When defeated during an encounter, your crew will only be migrated to a new server if you were invaded by a rival crew. In a future update, crews who are defeated in an encounter will always be migrated to a new server regardless of whether you were invaded by another crew or your invaded.
  • During the Technical Test, crews will be rewarded with gold immediately when defeating another crew. In a future update crews will be required to cash in their streak at an Outpost before being rewarded.
  • The Sands of Fate rewards for leaving the fight are placeholder and are not representative of the final set of rewards.
  • Players who open the War Map and then attempt to start an Adventure from Larinna may be unable to interact with the Captain’s Table afterwards.

‘A Hunter’s Cry’

  • The route to ascend the Sea Dog’s Tavern is still considered work in progress, with players finding floating lighthouse braziers on their ascent. In future Insider’s builds these braziers will become bedded into the surrounding environment.
  • Players dying within the Sea of the Damned are returning on the main jetty instead of back onto their ship.
  • After completing the Adventure, players will not currently be rewarded with the Memento or Title.

Fixed Issues

  • While fishing, nameplates now appear on any caught novelty items and if narration is enabled will also be narrated.

  • Players who join a Captained session in progress will now be able to see other Ship Announcement Banners when viewing other ships.
  • When multiple crew members equip different Ship Announcement Banners, now only the last selected will be displayed.
  • The Ship Announcement Banner that players receive when they equip a new banner will no longer play while they are still in the Customisation Chest.
  • Captain’s Voyages can now be started using the Voyage table without issue.

Captains of Adventure – Milestones
