Insider Patch Notes 2.5.2.9
Insider Update 2.5.2.9 is now live. While further fixes arrive for the Forsaken Hunter Adventure, Insiders have had their pirates and captained ships wiped
to test the addition of Ship Renaming for Captains of Adventure. Set sail on a Captained Ship and rename your ships to your hearts content!
As always, if you encounter any bugs, then please head to the
Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.
Captains of Adventure
Naming a Ship
- Following Insider Feedback, Ship Naming rules have been extended to now allow for twenty characters. Ship Names must still contain no numbers, cannot end or start with a space and contain no special characters.
Ship Renaming Deed
Players who didn’t quite think through the naming of their ship or for those that just fancy a change, will now be able to use a Ship Renaming Deed to change the name of their ship just select the ‘Rename Ship’ option found on the Front end.**
In this Insiders build, all Insiders will be provided the ability to rename ships from the Front End without limitation. In a future update this Ship Renaming Deed will become available for purchase from the Pirate Emporium.
Ship Customisation Memory Optimisations
- With the increase of ship customisation options arriving with Captains of Adventure, memory optimisations have been made to protect lower spec hardware. Players on older consoles or lower spec PC hardware, may find that when multiple highly decorated ships come together that the game will optimise performance by changing the appearance of some ship customisations.
- Players on PC will continue have the ability to configure how much system memory can be allocated to these decorated ships, ensuring higher-spec hardware can show a wider range of customisations.
Insiders Pirate Wipe
- As part of Insider update 2.5.2.9, all pirates and owned ships have now been wiped to provide a clean testing slate for the new additions to the Captains of Adventure features. Upon logging in, all Insiders will be required to create a new pirate, with some being automatically boosted to Pirate Legend.
Updates
Seated Camera Movement
- When sitting at an angle, moving your first-person camera will now have slightly less vertical movement when looking side to side.
Map Zoom
- Players are now able to change the keybinding for the Map Zoom from the Settings menu.
Athena’s Fortune Hideout Shops
- The Athena’s Fortune Shop now offers the Veil of the Ancients Costume to those legendary Pirates meeting the required promotion. This costume is no longer available from the Pirate Lord.
Gameplay Improvements
Island Threat Balancing
- Skeletons encountered while exploring islands have had their damage slightly reduced.
Skeleton Fort Improvements
- Food Barrels on Skeleton Forts are now stocked with a wider range of food and each barrel contains a larger supply.
- Barrels holding Cannonballs on Skeleton Forts now use the Cannonball Barrel visual appearance.
Known Issues
Tunnels of the Damned
- Emissary crews passing through the Tunnels of the Damned will no longer release an Emissary Flag into the Sea when leaving the server. This is a temporary change to mitigate an active exploit affecting the Emissary Ledgers and this functionality will be returned in a future update.
Forsaken Hunter
- Players will not currently be provided with a Mysterious Note when joining the game.
Captains of Adventure
- Players with owned Ships may be presented with a ‘Purchase Ship’ screen momentarily before their owned ships are displayed when navigating the front end.
- When naming and renaming a ship, some naming rules are not currently being enforced.
- Ship names do not appear on Captained Brigantines.
- The Sovereign’s Hut has been temporarily removed but the helpful Sovereigns remain for players to sell their loot to. Players will find placeholder text when talking to these characters.
Forsaken Hunter
- Crewmates straying too far from Larinna can prevent the Adventure from starting.
- Deeds from the Adventure do not track or update.
- Some players may experience issues completing the Adventure when migrating servers.
Fixed Issues

- Players should once again be able to deliver food and wood crates to the Merchant Alliance and no longer be redirected to Merrick.
- Players are no longer able to bury a discovered Stool.
Forsaken Hunter
- During her opening cutscene Larinna will no longer intersect with the environment around her.
- Players should no longer feel like their movement is being buffered when walking around The Masked Stranger.

- Other crews trying to finish the Adventure should now be able to even when another crew is watching the final cutscene.
- Updated final text for Belle when starting a chapter on K9 with crewmates.
- The final cutscene subtitles now match up to the voice over.

Captains of Adventure
- A range of decorations around the captain’s cabin and cooking stations will once again be visible on non-captained ships.

- Improved server stability to reduce scenarios where crews are removed from a game session.
