Insider Patch Notes 2.5.0.8

Insider Update 2.5.0.8 is now live. In the last Insider build before our April update, we continue to focus testing on the Legend of the Veil and Shrouded Deep Adventure. While April’s retail update is just around the corner, we will be continuing to work on both of the features ahead of a release later in the month.

As always, if you encounter any bugs, then please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.

Adventures

Upon being rescued from the fortified Sea Forts, the Golden Sands’ prisoners mentioned overhearing Flameheart’s intent to acquire an ancient mask of great power. Belle concocts a plan to use the power of Dark Relics to summon a beast long-considered myth and claim the powerful relic that lies within its belly.

‘Shrouded Deep’

  • Belle has joined forces with Merrick, the pirate whose shanty once woke Megalodons across the Sea of Thieves. The pair have not returned, though Larinna knows where they were seen last... Speak to Larinna to begin the ‘Shrouded Deep’ Adventure, then set sail to learn more!
  • On arriving at the wrecked Killer Whale, speak to Belle to learn about her plan to capture the souls of four Megalodons to start this wicked ritual. Belle will task crews to four locations and equips them with the means to summon a Megalodon and return with their essence.
  • Crews working together to bring back these four charged effigies can prime the ritual table, sending a beacon across the sea to call in all pirates for support. With five pirates present, playing Merrick’s shanty ‘Summon the Megalodon’ together at the ritual table will summon this terror from beyond the waves – be prepared!
  • While the ‘Graymarrow’s Orders’ shortcut is still present in this Insider’s update, we want Insiders to focus in this build on the flow of the Adventure, following Belle’s orders to summon the Megalodons and retrieve their souls for the summoning ritual.
  • Pirates who defeat this legendary monster during this time-limited Adventure will earn an exclusive Title and cosmetic reward to serve as a memento of their quest.

‘Shrouded Deep’ Final Encounter Balancing

  • Reduced the amount of resources found on the Killer Whale.
  • On reaching wave two of the encounter, crews will now find additional Ghost Ships enter the fray alongside the existing formation ships. While the number of Ghost Ships in this wave has increased, their damage has been reduced slightly.

Legend of the Veil

Legend of the Veil Reward Balancing

  • The amount of Emissary Grade progression earned for the Athena’s Fortune Emissary has been rebalanced. Crews raising an Athena’s Fortune Emissary at the start of the Voyage and picking all treasure up along the way will now reach Grade 5 by completing the Voyage.
  • The gold reward for cashing in any Chest of Legends or Ashen Chest of Legends has now been increased.

Known Issues

‘Shrouded Deep’

  • After defeating a summoned Megalodon, finding the soul floating in the water and holding out the effigy, players will find that the soul moves around erratically often cancelling the interaction.
  • Players having already completed the Shrouded Deep Adventure are no longer offered the ability to ‘Replay the Adventure’ from Belle. As a temporary workaround, Insiders can delete their pirate and create a new one to replay the Adventure and hunt the Megalodon in this update.

Legend of the Veil Voyage

  • The Pirate Lord can sometimes disappear during a cutscene, preventing the Voyage from progressing. In addition, walking far away from the Pirate Lord during his cutscene can cause his dialogue to pause and will not resume when returning.
  • Players exploring a Shipwreck Graveyard may discover keys that cannot be collected, preventing progress.
  • Crews migrating servers during the Voyage can cause various issues preventing progress.

Fixed Issues

Gameplay

  • With an active Tall Tale, attempting to propose a Voyage should now continue to show the voting tooltip correctly.
  • Players will no longer find pondies at Black Water Enclave.

‘Shrouded Deep’ Final Encounter

  • Belle and Merrick are no longer duplicated on the Killer Whale when starting the final encounter.
  • Ghost Ships that appear during the final encounter will no longer sail through the Killer Whale.
  • Crews not actively engaged with the Adventure will no longer receive a notification when the Adventure has been completed.
  • When speaking to Belle to start the outro cutscene, Belle’s lantern will now promptly disappear.
  • During the outro cutscene, Merrick’s tankard is no longer attached to his hand.
  • During the outro cutscene, Belle now focuses on the characters she is talking to.
  • Players should no longer receive a ‘Quest Received’ notification during the outro cutscene.
  • During and after the outro cutscene, players will no longer find themselves unable to move freely on the Killer Whale.
  • After the outro cutscene, Belle no longer vanishes from the Killer Whale.

Legend of the Veil Voyage

  • A range of text changes and improvements across the Legend of the Veil Voyage experience.
  • Losing a critical quest item will now cause the Voyage to fail.
  • After cancelling the Voyage, any loose Veil Stones are now removed.
  • When leaving the ship behind to progress the quest after starting the Voyage, players will no longer find that the Veil of the Ancients is missing from their ship on return.

  • Quest Pages found while exploring shipwrecks should no longer be floating above the ground.
  • While exploring a shipwreck, items hidden behind paintings can no longer be retrieved without moving the painting first.
  • Improved client stability when returning to a Shipwreck Graveyard from the Ferry of the Damned.
  • Migrating servers prior to collecting the door key will now allow players to retrieve the key on the destination server.

  • Crews should no longer hear Phantom voice overs from an active Haunted Fort that is a long distance away.

Environment

  • Players can no longer jump and climb up the walls on the top sections of Sea Forts.

Visual and Audio

  • Moving past Rank 20 in the Athena’s Fortune Trading Company should now visually display level progress in the Reputation Tab correctly.
  • Repairing a damaged Spring Blossom Wheel will now visually show the attached wooden poles once repaired.
