Insider Patch Notes 2.4.2.1
Insider Update 2.4.2.1 is now live. With the apparitions of sea forts now taking physical form across the seas, rally your crew to take on this new encounter!
As always, if you encounter any bugs, then please head to the
Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.
Sea Forts
The ghostly memories of Sea Forts spotted out at sea have now begun to take physical form within the Sea of Thieves…
Sea Forts
- The ghostly memories of Spanish Naval Sea Forts spotted after the Shrouded Island’s ritual was completed have now taken hold within the Sea of Thieves. Crews will find six explorable Sea Forts across the seas, with two in each region.
- On discovering a Sea Fort, crews should spy the raised flag and lit braziers to identify the fort is active and prepared to be defended by a Phantom crew. On approach, Phantoms will defend against oncoming ships with Fort cannons before switching to weapons as crews disembark.
- Crews will face off against waves of Phantoms as they explore the Fort’s interior, checking crates and cupboards for treasure as they go. Before clearing a Sea Fort, a captain will appear reinforced with Phantoms to force crews back to the sea. Crews able to defeat this captain and his army will be awarded a lock pick to access the Fort Treasury and retrieve the spoils.
- After clearing a Sea Fort, these structures will become undefended for a period of time – crews can use these new structures to defend from incoming threats from other crews seeking the Treasuries’ rewards!
Legend of the Veil
Shipwreck Graveyard Quest
- The Pirate Lord has uncovered evidence that a Veil Stone recovered by the Servant of the Flame has become lost at sea. Crews will need to locate a nearby shipwreck graveyard and dive into the murky depths to investigate the remains of the sunken fleet.
Haunted Island Quest
- The location of ancient statues has been changed to improve the Voyage flow while navigating islands.
- Ancients summoned during the closing ritual will now be heard with voice overs.
- Phantoms vanquished during the closing ritual will now drop Athena’s Fortune treasure when defeated.

Updates
Quick Cycle Map
- Players can now quickly cycle through maps within the Quest Radial, or Mysterious Notes. When holding a map or note in hand, use A/D on keyboard or Left/Right on the d-pad on controller to cycle between available maps.
- These keybinds share the same controls as turning Tall Tale quest book pages, and can be re-bound in the game settings.
Changing Game Language
- Console players can now choose a preferred game language from within the game settings to override the language set on the Xbox Console settings.
Server Hardware Technical Test
- Insider’s build 2.4.2.1 will be ran on new server hardware. While this technical test should result in improved server performance, this may introduce instability into the experience – please ensure any bugs identified during this test are reported via the Sea of Thieves support site.
Glorious Sea Dogs Tavern
- Following the news of Arena being removed in Season Six, players will begin to see changes in Insider builds as we prepare for its closure. The team are not seeking feedback or bug reports on these initial changes at this time, however, we will be providing space to capture issues in a later Insider’s build.
- Players will no longer find Amaranta outside the Sea Dog’s Tavern in Adventure.
- Winter, Carlos, Sybil and Tristan at the Sea Dog’s Tavern in Adventure will now have new dialogue.
Known Issues
Sea Forts
- The new Sea Forts are currently in an early stage of development, and the environmental geometry is still considered work in progress. Players may therefore discover invisible walls and uneven flooring while navigating the Forts and a range of mechanisms not yet functional. Phantoms encountered during the encounter can also move between floors and can become stuck in the environment during combat.
- Sea Fort encounters are currently balanced for 1-2 player crews and do not yet support dynamic difficulty scaling based on crew size.
- Crews will currently find all crates, cupboards and Treasuries empty.
- The lock pick retrieved from the Phantom Captain can be used to open any locked door, and once used cannot be reused to unlock the Treasury.
- Once a Sea Fort is cleared and the Treasuries raided, the Fort doors do not currently lock when the Fort resets, allowing crews access to the Treasuries once again.
Legend of the Veil
Veil Stones slotted into the Veil of the Ancients can become invisible after a player’s death or upon disconnecting. This is visual only and does not affect the ability to complete or progress on the Voyage.
Crews migrating servers during the Voyage can cause various issues preventing progress.
Legend of the Veil – Haunted Islands
- Picking up a Flames of Fate will override the Enchanted Lantern.
- When progressing a Haunted Island quest, the placeholder friendly Golden Skeletons are currently able to be damaged and killed by players.
Fixed Issues
General
- Players on Xbox are once again able to access the title when setting sail from the front-end menu.
- When performing actions that can earn Seasonal Renown repeatedly, the UI notifications should no longer become stuck within the notification window.
Shrouded Islands
When defeating all the waves during the Soulflame Ritual, the Soulflame Captain should now consistently appear allowing the Adventure to progress.
During Belle’s introduction on Shipwreck Bay, she now holds her lantern during the animation.
When multiple crews are progressing through the Adventure, all crews can now interact with Belle, and she will accept Rune Tablets or Hexing Skulls while still dealing with other crews.
Crews will now receive a notification when earning the Shrouded Compass and title upon completing the Adventure.
Belle’s dialog now clearly identifies all options which allow the Adventure to progress.
Legend of the Veil
- Quests offered by Sudds, Belle and the Pirate Lord no longer direct players to an island with an active world event.
- Improved the timing of Sudds cutscenes, preventing him from repeating hello/goodbye when interacting.
- The Veil Stone now sits correctly in the players hand when held in addition to when placed on the ground and into Collector’s Chests.
Legend of the Veil – Haunted Islands
- Crews are now able to migrate servers while on an active Haunted Islands Quest without migration preventing progress.
- Belle can now be spotted at a greater distance when approaching here on islands.
- Members of other crews can no longer light the braziers for your Voyage, halting progress.
- Instructions on where to find Belle on Sharkbait Cove are now much clearer.
