Legend of the Veil
The world of the Sea of Thieves is beginning to fracture as memories from the Sea of the Damned bleeding through into our world. With malevolent forces seeking to harness this immense power, the Pirate Lord tasks legendary pirates with a fateful quest…
Legend of the Veil Voyage
- The ‘Legend of the Veil’ is a new Voyage exclusive for Pirate Legends, blending Quests and Tall Tales to provide a highly replayable experience in a shorter session. Purchase the Voyage from the Pirate Lord in the Athena’s Fortune Hideout for free before voting on the Captain’s Table to begin.
For this Insider’s build, all pirates have been granted Pirate Legend status, with full access to the Athena’s Fortune Hideout.
- The Pirate Lord calls upon the support of legends to retrieve the missing Veil Stones and prevent them getting into nefarious hands. The Pirate Lord himself will guide players through the Voyage from their own ship, appearing after crews retrieve each Veil Stone and placing it on the Veil of the Ancients located on the ship.
- Each Voyage will play out differently, providing crews with a mix of experiences, differing orders and changed locations in the world. Crews will face challenges posed by Sudds and a new character called Belle, before the Voyage culminates with an encounter at a Haunted Fort.
- Crew’s uncovering the mysteries of the Veil will earn both old and new items of Athena’s Fortune treasure as they progress through their Voyage.
Zoom Map Quests
- Sudds has uncovered the location of a Veil Stone, but was only able to decipher the information close to the dig site. Crews will need to use their knowledge of the world to identify the location from the limited clues provided.
Picture Map Quests
- Sudds has been noting down his research of images of a particular island and dig spot. Using the clues, he has provided to find where the Veil Stone may have been buried.
Lying Map Quests
- Sudds was able to gather some information about a potential location, however he believes the information is somehow flawed. Uncover the truth and locate the buried stone.
Haunted Island Quest
- Belle’s mysterious connection to the Sea of The Damned has enabled her to bring the fabled Ferryman’s lantern through to our world. Harness the magical powers of the lantern to locate and uncover the memories of Ancient Totems before dragging them into reality.
- Once all Totems have been discovered, witness the Ancient’s ritual interrupted by Phantoms, take arms alongside your new allies to earn their trust and the location of the final Veil Stone.
Haunted Forts
- The Legend of the Veil will culminate in a naval encounter with apparitions piercing through from the Sea of The Damned. Crews must demonstrate their mastery of the sea and defend themselves from the unending waves of ghostly ships in order to target these haunted fort structures.
Game Events
Festival of Giving
- Both Plundered Presents and Grogmanay events are active for Insiders, allowing crews to progress the various challenges from either event.
Updates
Loot Haul Memory Controls
- When collecting notable hauls of different loot in a single place, the game will reach a threshold where it will optimise performance by changing the appearance of certain loot items. Players on PC will now have the ability to configure how much system memory can be allocated for these loot hauls, ensuring higher spec rigs can show a wider range of treasure.
Player Input Handling
- Improved responsiveness of radial menus on lower-spec hardware. Following this change, players will find any custom key binds for radial menus have been reset.
Fireworks & Signal Flares
- Fireworks and Signal Flares are once again available for purchase from the Merchant Alliance.
Known Issues
Legend of the Veil Voyage
- The Legend of Veil is currently in a very early stage of development, and therefore contains a range of prototype artwork, animations, UI, cutscenes and assets throughout the experience. The team are not currently looking for feedback on these clear placeholder areas of the experience.
- Veil Stones slotted into the Veil of the Ancients can become invisible after a player’s death or disconnect. This is visual only and does not affect the ability to complete or make progress on the Voyage.
- Players are currently able to slot stolen Veil Stones into their own Veil of the Ancients onboard their ship, however this is not intended behaviour.
- When progressing a Haunted Island Quest, the placeholder friendly golden skeletons are currently able to be damaged and killed by players.
- Players already holding a flame of Fate will find the statues uncovered during the Haunted Islands Quest will be unable to be lit. Players should lose the flame of fate and return and use the Ferryman’s Lantern to light the brazier.
- Ghost Ships encountered during the Haunted Fort Quest are damageable and accidently destroy the Fort emplacements.
- Starting the Shores of Gold Tall Tale will cancel the Legend of the Veil Voyage if the Voyage is active.
- Phantom cannoneers on the Haunted Forts do not currently fire at player ships.
Fireworks
- Migrating across servers while a Firework’s fuse is lit causes it to be unusable when arriving on the new server.
- Attempting to launch Fireworks in Tunnels of the Damned causes the fuse to light permanently.
Burying Items
- Dropped map bundles can migrate with players but cannot be placed on the ship.
- Players cannot view the delivery note when they dig up cargo items.
Performance & Stability
- Players may experience rubberbanding directly after landing a ranged weapon shot on enemy threats.
Pirate Emporium
- The camera positioning for the Sea Dog Weapon Pose emotes are too low.
- The Frozen Horizon Lantern has the incorrect default colour flame.
