Insider Patch Notes 2.2.0.8

Insider Update 2.2.0.8 is now live. Mysterious Siren Shrines and Treasuries are emerging deep below the waves all across the Sea of Thieves. Take a dive and discover what the Sirens are hiding in their Sunken Kingdom, battle against Ocean Crawlers and the Sirens themselves to unearth hidden riches down below.

If you encounter any bugs, please head to the Sea of Thieves Support site and let our Player Support team know.

The Sunken Kingdom

While the Sunken Kingdom has always existed beneath the waves, the events of ‘A Pirate’s Life’ have stirred the home of the Sirens. For an update from our Lead Designer on the Sunken Kingdom, head to this Developer Update.

Siren Shrines

  • Built by the mysterious Sirens, these newly uncovered Shrines have each been created with a wicked purpose. Charted on the ship’s map, crews reaching the marked location will need to dive deep and swim through aerated waters to reach these towering monuments.
  • Siren Shrines will challenge a crew’s puzzle solving skills as they navigate through traps and obstacles to access the hidden locations within the sunken structures. Crews will find coral treasure as they progress, and the further they ascend the more treasure may be discovered...
  • The ‘Shrine of Hungering’ and ‘Shrine of Flooded Embrace’ in The Wilds and ‘Shrine of Ocean’s Fortune’ in the Shores of Plenty are now active, allowing crews passage to descend beneath the waves.

Siren Treasuries

  • Siren Treasuries are underwater locations where pirates can test their combat skills against a range of enemy threats. Expect to battle against waves of hideous Ocean Crawlers and deadly Sirens to unlock the Vault and escape with their coral treasures.
  • The ‘Treasury of the Sunken Shores’ is now active in the Shores of Plenty, allowing crews to reach this new location.

Sunken Treasure Merfolk

  • While exploring the Sunken Kingdom, crews will be aided by friendly merfolk sworn to help those in need, in the form of Merfolk Statues. These Statues located in all Sunken Kingdom locations allow each crew to deposit 15 Sunken Treasure items for safe keeping as they navigate through an area.
  • On returning to the surface, the familiar sight and sound of merfolk will greet players holding all their collected Sunken Treasure inside a clamshell on their back. When a crew is ready to collect their spoils, only they can release their treasure for collection.

Temporary Insiders Server Limits

  • With the early introduction of the Sunken Kingdom into Insiders, there are a range of known issues that can manifest when multiple crews attempt to progress through the various locations together. In order to reduce the frequency of these issues in early Insider’s builds, we are temporarily reducing the maximum number of crews on any given server down to two.
  • In order to get the most valuable feedback to the team at this stage of development, if you do find a crew already exploring a Shrine or Treasury at your intended location, we advise moving to explore a different area.

Known Issues

The Sunken Kingdom

  • All Siren Shrines & Treasuries are currently in an early stage of development and contain work in progress artwork. Expect to find visual issues in the environments which are not yet ready for testing.
  • When progressing through a Siren Shrine with mechanisms, on completion the mechanisms may not reset for subsequent crews.
  • Players may be unable to pick up small loot items from within the Shrines and Treasuries.
  • ‘Shrine of Hungering' – Any loot that spawns on the far ledge before the last chamber can't be picked up.
  • ‘Treasury of the Sunken Shores’ – If there are more than four players in the Treasury of the Sunken Shores, the players will not be able to progress.
  • ‘Treasury of the Sunken Shores’ – Joining a ship in progress that is above the Treasury stops players from being able to swim all the way down.
  • ‘Treasury of the Sunken Shores’ – Hermit’s can burrow outside of their intended combat area.
  • ‘Treasury of the Sunken Shores’ – The air giving plants are not working and don’t provide air for players.

Sunken Treasure Merfolk

  • After migrating, players will not be able to collect their stored loot from the Merfolk as they will show as empty and say, “cannot collect treasures”.
  • Collecting loot from the Merfolk when there are multiple crews in the same area can cause the Merfolk to despawn.
  • If a player’s ship is too far away from a Shrine’s location, the Sunken Merfolk Statue will not spawn.
  • When putting a Treasure chest in the Sunken Merfolk Statue, the gold and loot that spawned inside Treasure chest will disappear when retrieved from the Merfolk.
  • While a Merfolk is waiting on the surface, it will currently display a placeholder Reaper’s Bounty icon on the Ship’s Map.

Jewels of the Deep

  • Players won’t get a notification when completing any of the challenges.
  • Larinna’s Black Market gold tab is empty.

Tall Tales

  • ‘The Sunken Pearl’ & ‘Dark Brethren’ – When a door to an encounter is locked and players must wait as it does not display a prompt to tell the player the door is locked.
  • ‘The Sunken Pearl’ – Migrating after starting the Tale and while The Castaway is talking will block Tale progression as players will not be able to progress into the shrine though the Siren window.

Tunnels of the Damned

  • When entering the Tunnels of the Damned as an active Emissary, you will no longer release an appropriate Emissary Flag in the water as you leave. This new Known Issue is a side effect of a recent fix to Emissary Flags and will be resolved in Insiders prior to our next retail release.
  • While travelling through the Tunnels of the Damned, losing your connection to the game and rejoining may cause visual issues, causing the migration to the new area to fail and return you to your starting location.
  • The Megalodon can spawn in the Tunnels of the Damned.

Pet Naming

  • Players on Xbox are unable to rename their pets within the Pet Chest.

Pirate Emporium

  • There is a range of placeholder text and imagery throughout the Pirate Emporium.
  • The Pirate Emporium mistakenly offers the Barrel Disguise emote for purchase with Ancient Coins.

The Kraken

  • Animation issues with Kraken tentacles can cause the Kraken’s appearance and attacks to visually repeat themselves.

Fixed Issues

General

  • Players can no longer cancel the Scoop and Throw animations while using the bucket in order to bail water faster than intended.
  • The ambient audio effects heard from a Chest of a Thousand Grogs and Bounty Skulls will no longer be heard once the player cashes them in.
  • When looking at a riddle quest map, the riddle steps should now fade in on the map instead of popping in.
  • The last bubble projectile fired from the Trident of the Dark Tides should now appear the same size for both attacking and defending players.
  • The Devil’s Shroud should now fit the map edges on the west side of the map.
  • The culinary letters of recommendation should only be purchasable once.
  • Players should now be told that their inventory is full when trying to remove a fish from their fishing rod with a full inventory.
  • Players should no longer be able to stand on the Brigantine voting table and pop through the hull.
  • When engaging with The Crab or Hermit Ocean Crawlers, players can no longer push too close and hide their model from view.

Tall Tales

  • ‘A Pirate’s Life’ – The lighthouse light should now appear to move for players far away from the lighthouse.
  • ‘A Pirate’s Life’ – Ghost Pirates should now spawn as intended in the tavern in the City of the Damned when started from various check points or when leaving the tavern and returning.
  • ‘A Pirate’s Life’ – When interacting with the Prison Dog on the Ferry of the Damned, the prompt should now say “Take Brig Key”.
  • ‘A Pirate’s Life’ – After digging up Poor Dougie’s Chest the prompt to use a key to unlock the chest should now have Dougie’s name spelt correctly.
  • ‘A Pirates Life’ & ‘Captains of the Damned’ – The ship’s map table should now be hidden after joining a Tale in progress or re-joining a session.
  • ‘Sunken Pearl’ – The Kraken is once again balanced correctly based on the number of players in the encounter.
  • ‘Captains of the Damned’ – The two higher Kraken tentacles during the Silver Blade fight should no longer have hit markers or react when shot.
  • ‘Lords of the Sea’ – Players should no longer hear the water splashing SFX on The Black Pearl when there is no water present.
