Insider Patch Notes 2.1.1.5

Insider Update 2.1.1.5 is now live! Phantoms have returned with a range of fixes to improve their experience, along with our next wave or map migration testing – check below to get involved.

If you encounter any bugs, please head to the Sea of Thieves Support site and let our Player Support team know.

Phantoms

These fearsome foes have picked up unnatural abilities that further enhance their fast-paced attacks, striking fear into the hearts of every living crew they encounter. For an update from our Creative Director, head to this Developer Update.

Phantom Spawning

  • While pirates have grown used to finding skeletons lurking across the islands of the Sea of Thieves, crews must now beware! When venturing across the Sea of Thieves, players can now also encounter deadly Phantoms and their fearsome crewmates while scouring the islands.
  • When encountering emergent Phantoms, they now spawn in more representative group sizes dependant on the number of players in the area.

Phantom Balancing

  • Each Phantom ability has been rebalanced, including their frequency, cooldown and damage to ensure a fast-paced fight without overwhelming players.
  • Phantoms move fast and hit hard but they can now be stunned when vulnerable, allowing players to get multiple attacks in before they move again.

Phantom Abilities

  • Following a lunge attack, Phantoms are now vulnerable to follow up attacks.
  • Phantoms disorientating players during a teleport charge will now pause for longer as they approach, allowing players to stagger them and engage.

Phantom Effects

  • Phantoms now have a clearer set of visual and audio effects, allowing players to better identify the cues to gain the upper hand.
  • Players unaware of Phantoms will now hear a ghostly whisper effect around them – watch your back!

Map Migration Technical Test

This Insider build re-enables the early technical test of map migration. Head to the Outpost to find a temporary Tale and venture into the ominous new rock formations to arrive at Old Sailor Isle!

  • A range of stability improvements have been made to the map migration systems, resulting in a smoother transition for crews to their new location.
  • Along with stability improvements, a range of behind-the-scenes reporting has been added to support the diagnosis and investigation of future issues experienced in Insiders.

Known Issues

Combat

  • The ranged weapon reload animations can currently be skipped allowing players to fire faster than intended.

Sirens

  • When defeating a Siren, they do not drop their appropriate Siren Gem.
  • If a player dies and respawns during an emergent Siren encounter, even more Sirens will spawn alongside the already existing ones.

Flags of Friendship

  • There is placeholder text and imagery within the Flags of Friendship Event.
  • Players only receive the 1000 gold bonus once when one of the chests they have given to another crew is handed in.

Emissaries

  • Killing a Megalodon does not award players with reputation for the Athena's Fortune Emissary.

Front End Loading

  • Due to a change in asset loading, the artwork in the front-end menu will now load slowly in Insiders.

Localisation

  • Larinna's Bilge Rat dialogue options are missing localisation in non-English languages.
  • The Dawn Hunter Set items are missing localisation in non-English languages.
  • There is missing localisation on a pop-up after purchasing items and entitlements from shops and NPCs in non-English languages.

Fixed Issues

General

  • ‘Wild Rose’ – On reaching the final chapter of the Tale and returning to the Order of Souls, the Outpost will now load correctly.
  • Players should no longer be able to vote to end an Emissary session shortly after their ship has sunk.
  • While representing the Athena’s Fortune or Order of Souls as an Emissary, defeating named skeletons at Skeleton Forts and the Fort of Fortune will now earn crews Emissary grade Progression.
  • Crews migrating servers near a Shipwreck will no longer bring undiscovered treasure with them to the new server.
  • When affected by snake venom, the full screen visual effect will now display.
  • Browsing the clothing store at the Outpost should no longer show overlapping navigation markers the bottom of the screen.
  • Purchasing items from the Outpost stores in non-english languages should no longer display a debug text string.

Flags of Friendship

  • On unlocking all event rewards, the rewards tab will continue to be accessible.
  • When donating loot to other crews, treasure stored on your ship that is then passed to others now is counted towards a donation.

Sirens

  • Improved the pathing and movement of Sirens when near terrain, reducing the scenarios where they could become stuck and unable to reach the player.

Phantoms

  • Players standing still should now be hit when a Phantom performs its melee charge attack.
  • Phantoms hit with a Cursed Cannonball should now animate correctly.
  • Phantoms should no longer appear to be wielding an invisible weapon.
  • When teleporting around the environment or teleport lunging at players, the audio effects should now play consistently.
  • When performing a cutlass combo, the Phantoms legs will animate.
  • When receiving damage from cutlass strikes, Phantoms will now flinch in multiple directions depending on where they are hit.
  • Phantoms performing a lunge attack will no longer appear to freeze while moving towards the player.
  • Improved pathing and movement of Phantoms, reducing the scenarios where they could become stuck in geometry.
  • Improvements to the Phantoms teleport visual effects at night to prevent photosensitivity issues for players.

Map Migration Technical Test

  • When passing through the portal sequence, island geometry should no longer be seen above.
  • After returning from the portal, players are able to interact with ship interactions on other crew’s ships.
  • When passing through the portal and reaching the end, client performance should no longer be impacted while migrating to the new server.
  • Sailing a damaged ship into the portal and letting it sink during the transition will no longer cause the migration to fail.
  • Further improvements to server stability when crews are migrating between servers.
