Festival of Giving
- Mercenary Commendations and Rewards – A range of Mercenary Commendations are available to unlock for participating in the Gift Seeker Voyages offered by Jim, earning players Doubloons to spend in the Black Market
All Mercenary Voyage Commendations, Doubloons and Title are time-limited for the duration of the Festival of Giving update.
Ashen Skeleton Forts – Crews warn of ominous Red Skull clouds appearing on the horizon. Engaging with these Skeleton forts, crews fighting through waves will encounter Ashen Keymasters or Ashen Guardians before finally facing off against a Skeleton Lord! On defeat, Skeleton Lords will not only drop the Fort Key, but also a Skeleton Order for a stash hidden somewhere nearby. In addition to regular fort rewards, crews will find a guaranteed Ashen Chests along with Gifts to be returned to the Reaper’s Hideout!
The Ashen Skeleton Forts will become a permanent addition to the world after the Festival of Giving update, allowing players to encounter this threat at any time.
Ashen Treasures Commendations & Rewards: Volume 2 – Both Stitcher Jim and the Outpost stores have been stocked with new selection of Ashen Cosmetics, rewarding players for collecting the next chapter of Ashen Tomes hidden inside the recovered Ashen Chests. In the Festival of Giving update, players can recover Volume Two – The Tomes of Power, allowing access to a range of new commendations and the new selection of cosmetics including items from the clothing, weapons, items, and ship sets. Players will continue to find Volume One – The Tomes of Curses to allow access to the previous Ashen cosmetics.
All Ashen Treasures Commendations & Rewards will become a permanent addition to the Outpost Stores after the Festival of Giving update.
Ashen Treasures Achievements – A range of Xbox Achievements have been added from unlocking in-game Commendations. A total of 35 Gamerscore is available to earn from this update and these Achievements will persist in the game for future updates.

- Skeleton Lord Voyage Balancing – In addition to teleporting, knockback and summoning abilities, the Muntinous Helmsmann now wields a cutlass and pistol as well. All Skeleton Lords encountered on voyages have had their health reduced to the same level to provide a more consistent encounter for a range of players.
- Skeleton Lord Fort Balancing – All Skeleton Lords encountered on voyages have had their health reduced to provide a more balanced experience, especially for solo players. Meanwhile, health of Skeleton Lords encountered in Forts remains the same. Each Skeleton Lord now also prefers different abilities to provide variety between the encounters.
- Ashen Chest Reward Balancing – Stitcher Jim now only pays 5 Doubloons for an Ashen Chest (down from 10).
- Gift Seeker Voyage Rewards – When retrieving an Ashen Chest from the spoils of a Gift Seeker Voyage, these are guaranteed to contain Tomes of Power from Volume Two. However, these chests have a chance to contain Tomes of Curses from Volume One.
- Ashen Skeleton Ship Battle Rewards – With Ominous Skeleton Ships still appearing across the world, defeating them will continue to award players Ashen Chests that are guaranteed to contain Tomes of Curses from Volume One. These chests also have a chance to contain Tomes of Power from Volume Two.
- Ashen Guardian Rewards – Ashen Chests in hidden stashes uncovered after defeating Ashen Guardians may contain Tomes from any volume.
- Washed Up Gifts – Players will now find both Humble and Generous Gifts washed up around the world!
Pirate Emporium
With fresh goods smuggled into the Sea of Thieves each month, the Pirate Emporium has been restocked with rare goods and festive treats. We’ve got some exciting new items on sale, so head to the Pirate Emporium from the Sea of Thieves main menu before jumping into the game, or at an Outpost via the new store opened above the Order of Souls tent!
- Festival of Giving Sale – Spreading the festive cheer, the Pirate Emporium offers a range of discounts across our older Inventory. With discounts on Pets, Outfits, Ships and Emotes there’s something for everyone!

- Festival of Giving – Got that festive feeling? The Pirate Emporium is celebrating the festive season with a range of new festive options. Pick up some festive weapons as well as outfits for all the pets! While not necessarily the ‘giving’ mood most intended, be sure to try these new weapons out on your rivals!
These ‘Festival of Giving’ items are time-limited for the Festival of Giving Update, snatch them before they return to the vault.
- Festival of Giving Discount Bundles – For this month only, you can pick up discounted bundles for the Parakeet and Barbary, each dressed in a festive outfit.
- Kraken Pet Outfits – Introducing the popular Kraken themed outfits for your loyal companion! Each pet can now dress to match their owner with this classic set. Go to the pet section of the Pirate Emporium to purchase an outfit before heading to the Pet Chest to equip it.
- Pirate Legend Pet Outfits – Pirate Legends can pick up something exclusive this month, with the introduction of the Pirate Legend outfits for your pet! Go to the pet section of the Pirate Emporium to purchase an outfit before heading to the Pet Chest to equip it.
- Bilge Rats Persona Bundle – Always felt a little out of place when surrounded by those serious pirate-types? Looking for a spot of adventure, and maybe some trouble along the way? Pick up the Bilge Rats Persona Bundle providing a fresh new set of core emotes, with a Bilge Rats attitude!
- Storytelling Bundle – A range of new storytelling emotes have been added, providing players with expressive storytelling tools. Show your crew how you sneaked onto a rival ship and destroyed their Gunpowder Keg – or even that fish you nearly caught!
- Hide and Sneak Bundle – The Hide and Sneak bundle offers a new set of emotes for those sneaky pirates. Looking to sneak onto a rival’s ship and hide away, waiting to strike? This bundle contains both serious and silly options for your stowaway antics, with even an emote given away for free! When using these emotes, your gamertag and title will be hidden automatically for as long as you stay silent, however should you speak up your gamertag and title will quickly reappear so keep quiet to stay hidden!
- The Crab Dab Emote – The latest craze sweeping the Sea of Thieves, or perhaps some form of ancient crab worship? Whatever your reason, represent your love for crabs with this new dance emote.
- Festival of Giving Bundle (Store Only) – Available only on the Xbox and Microsoft Stores; share in the festive celebrations with the Festival of Giving Bundle. With four fun emotes to help you settle into the festive season, four food-themed weapons to show to your rivals, plus 1000 Ancient Coins and free bonus Gold - you’ll be ready to share the season of giving!
Updates
- Storm Lightning Balancing – The frequency of Lightning strikes hitting players while inside a storm have been reduced, however wielding your cutlass will continue to increase the chances of being hit and increase the damage.
Fixed Issues
General
- Multiple Skeleton Forts should no longer be able spawn at the same time. The removal of these duplicate Forts will also remove scenarios where completing a Fort had a chance to reward no loot in the Fort Vault once opened.
- Portable Ammo Crates can now spawn emergently in the world.
Vibrant Two-Tone Hair Dye has been returned to the Pirate Hideout Store.
Cancelling out of repairing the ship’s wheel or capstan no longer plays damage VFX/SFX.
Raising a dropped mast then lowering the sails will no longer cause the mast to clip through the ship.
The 'Allow Friends to Join Me' setting no longer prevents the sending of invites, it instead just prevents friends from joining your crew without an invite.
Players will no longer become stuck if they pick up an item while casting the fishing rod.
Switching to a sword while aiming a gun now correctly show the player state when seen by another player.
‘Cursed Rogue’ - cutscenes will now play for players when joining in progress.
‘Shores of Gold’ - cutscenes will now play for players when joining in progress.
‘Fate of the Morningstar’ – the Enchanted Lantern no longer takes the players Flame of Fate colour.
Skeleton Ship battle clouds no longer have a pink reflection in the sea.
The Reapers chest beam will no longer remain where the chest was picked up from for a couple of seconds.
The Bilge Rat Make Friends emote does now make friends if two players perform it together.
The tip of the rear mast on the Galleon will no longer stay in place when the mast is destroyed.
Resolved a game crash that had a chance of happening when re-joining an existing crew session.
Resolved animation issues with certain body types when performing the jump sit emote.
Fished items can now be placed inside the Collector's Chest.
The Seabound Soul
- Ambient skeletons can no longer spawn in the time between when you start the tale and when the cutscene starts.
- Leaving the Ancient Tomb between opening the sarcophagus and taking the skull will no longer cause the tomb door to remain closed.
Maiden Voyage
- Areas of the beached shipwreck will no longer cause players to bounce into the sky.
- Losing your ship during the Maiden Voyage will now be respawned.
- Placeholder assets replaced with final artwork.
- The stow any equipment prompt will now be removed from screen if the player is to stow their cutlass before being prompted to.
- When repairing the mast, if the player is to stop the repair action just before the progress bar is full, the repair prompt will update.
- The campfire located in the passageway now has audio.
- Removed invisible collision behind the drawbridge in the tunnel section of the island.
- Players can no longer become stuck in a gap between rocks on the Maiden Voyage Island.
- When sailing through the Devil’s Shroud as you head towards the Sea of Thieves, players can no longer encounter large waves not intended for this initial onboarding sailing experience.
Company Onboarding
- Losing your ship prior to reaching the anchor prompt will no longer prevent the onboarding from continuing.
- Losing your ship during the Company Onboarding Voyage, the tutorial prompts now direct the player to the right location.
- There are now icons for zooming in and out of the map table when using controller
Festival of Giving
- Imperial Sovereign Gloves are now using the correct textures.
- Resolved typo’s in text descriptions.
- The Mercenary Lantern light is no longer offset to the left.
- Banners and audio now play when approaching the Reaper’s Hideout.
- Ashen Guardians, Key Masters and Lords now have appropriate nameplates.
- Generous Gifts now have non-verbal options setup.
Fire
- Players can no longer throw two firebombs in quick succession and other players see two explosions
- The charring effect can now be applied to the mast on the Sloop.
- Being set on fire no longer forces you to exit a barrel UI screen.
Known Issues
- Cosmetics Saving across Sessions – Some players may find that after equipping cosmetics then leaving the game, on their return those cosmetics will no longer be equipped. Some improvements have been made to this issue in November’s update, however the team are continuing to investigate.
- Tall Tales – ‘Sailor of the Shores of Gold’ Title not unlocking – Some players may find that after having completed the ‘Seeker of Grand Adventure’ Commendation, they are not awarded the ‘Sailor of the Shores of Gold’ Title. The team are continuing to investigate this issue.
