Insider Patch Notes - Update 2.0.8.3

Insider Update 2.0.8.3 is now live! With previous Insider builds introducing our latest Tall Tale and the introduction of Fire around the world, it’s time to introduce our next Monthly Update activity!

Tentatively named ‘Reign of Ash’, this next update introduces a range of new voyages, emergent skeleton encounters and new rewards for players to earn. Head to the tavern to meet Jim and check Duke’s note on the bar before heading out into the world as you intercept the Ashen Chests and the treasures hidden within them.

If you do encounter any bugs, then please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.

Reign of Ash

Duke has heard rumours of skeletons accumulating collections of Ashen Tomes and keeping them under heavy guard. They are taking great lengths to protect the tomes and the mysterious pages within and have begun locking them inside Ashen Chests and protecting the Ashen Keys in isolation. This level of organisation is worrying - something big is brewing! Duke has hastily fled from the Outpost to seek advice from Larinna and has left Stitcher Jim in charge of his operations.

Stitcher Jim has tasked crews with intercepting these Ashen Chests and if possible, finding the Ashen Keys to unlock them and retrieve the treasures within. While we might not know what the skellies are planning, we can certainly make it tougher for them by taking these Ashen Tomes from under their noses!

  • Key Seeker Voyages – Although not knowing exactly where the Key Masters can be found, Stitcher Jim’s scouts have provided details of their Captains in each region of the world. On Defeating the Captain, a dropped ‘Skeleton Orders’ will lead players to the location of a hidden Ashen Key, however beware – collecting an Ashen Key will antagonise the Key Masters to reveal themselves and protect their treasure! While Jim will reward players with Doubloons for retrieving these Ashen Keys, the true prize is locked inside the Ashen Chests, so hold onto these Keys and head out to hunt for an Ashen Chest!

All Key Seeker Voyages are time-limited for the duration of The Seabound Soul update.

  • Legendary Ashen Guardian Lure Voyage – Stitcher Jim’s scouts have given the locations of Ashen Trinkets buried throughout the main regions and wants Pirate Legends to dig them up in order to provoke an Ashen Guardian into revealing themselves. Defeating the Ashen Guardian will result in a dropped riddle leading to the location of the Ashen Chests that they’re protecting. Expect to discover a range of Ashen Trinkets and multiple Ashen Chests from this Legendary Voyage!

The Legendary Ashen Guardian Voyage is time-limited for the duration of The Seabound Soul update.

  • Mercenary Commendations and Rewards – A range of Mercenary Commendations are available to unlock for participating in the Key Seeker and Ashen Guardian Lure Voyages offered by Jim, earning players Doubloons as well as a soon to be named Title.

All Mercenary Voyage Commendations, Doubloons and Title are time-limited for the duration of The Seabound Soul update.

  • Ashen Skeleton Ship Battles – Crews warn of perilous encounters while engaging with Skeleton Ship clouds. Sailing towards this threatening cloud will uncover Skeleton Ships carrying a hidden shipment of Ashen Chests. Don’t be too complacent however, these Ships now wield firebombs to take on anyone daring to threaten them. On defeat, their stash of Ashen Chests and even a Ritual Skull will be released!

The Ashen Skeleton Ship Battles will become a permanent addition to the world after The Seabound Soul update, allowing players to encounter this threat at any time.

  • Ashen Guardian and Ashen Key Master Sightings – With heightened levels of activity across the sea, Ashen Guardians and even Ashen Key Masters have been spotted patrolling on Islands. Keep a close eye on islands as you explore and take them down!

The Ashen Guardian & Key Masters will become a permanent addition to the world after The Seabound Soul update, allowing players to encounter this threat at any time.

  • Ashen Chest Stash Voyages – Stitcher Jim has retrieved a stash of Ashen Chests for himself, however, doesn’t hold enough Ashen Keys to unlock the tomes within. Within the Black Market, Stitcher offers players a Stash Voyage to collect a quick Ashen Chest straight from the Outpost. These Black Market Voyages can be purchased for either Doubloons or Gold and are repeatable to your heart’s content!

  • Reign of Ash Commendations – A new tab has been added to the Bilge Rats Reputation page to house a new set of persistent Commendations for helping Jim intercept the Ashen cargo and the Ancient Tomes locked inside. Earn Doubloons to spend in the Black Market along the way, as well unlocking the soon to be named Titles.

All Reign of Ash Commendations will become a permanent addition to the world after the The Seabound Soul update.

  • Ashen Rewards : Volume 1 – Both Stitcher Jim and the Outpost stores have been stocked with a selection of new Ashen Cosmetics, rewarding players for collecting the various Ashen Tomes hidden inside the recovered Ashen Chests. In the Seabound Soul Update, players can recover Volume One of the Ashen Tomes, allowing access to the first set of cosmetics including items from the clothing, weapons, iems and ship sets.

All Ashen Rewards will become a permanent addition to the Outpost Stores after The Seabound Soul update.

Black Market

With Duke taking off in a hurry, Stitcher Jim has taken over the Black Market and has refreshed the stock with a range of new items; from the beloved ‘Wild Rose’ weapons and previously unattainable ‘Wailing Barnacle’ items, to the completion of the Forsaken Ashes Ship Set and introduction of the Rotten Bilge Rat Clothing Set – there’ll definitely be something that catches your eye and burns a whole in your pocket. Remember these offers will only last until the next Monthly Content Update, so grab them now! (Jim vows that he’ll make good on Duke’s promise and return all Black Market items into stock in future updates)

  • Wild Rose Weapons – Continuing the beloved Wild Rose Set, this month offers the Wild Rose Weapons – Collect the Wild Rose Cutlass, Wild Rose Blunderbuss, Wild Rose Eye of Reach and Wild Rose Flintlock all available for Doubloons.
  • Wailing Barnacle Items – Not wishing to leave sets unfinished, Jim has stocked the previously unattainable Wailing Barnacle Items! Available for Doubloons, players can pick up the Lantern of the Wailing Barnacle, Compass of the Wailing Barnacle, Spyglass of the Wailing Barnacle, Shovel of the Wailing Barnacle, Bucket of the Wailing Barnacle, Tankard of the Wailing Barnacle, Speaking Trumpet of the Wailing Barnacle and even the Fishing Rod of the Wailing Barnacle!

The Arena

  • Ship Customisation – You will now see a ship customization chest in the sea dog's tavern where you can customize your ships Wheel, Cannons, Capstan and figurehead for the next contest! Your team color will still be represented on the Sails, Hull and Flag so you can see rival crews.

Pirate Emporium

  • Purchasing Ancient Coins – Purchasing Ancient Coins from the Sea of Thieves main menu or in-game Pirate Emporium, players are now presented with a better purchasing experience, matching visuals used on the Xbox and Microsoft Stores.

Updates

  • Who equipped that? – When inside the Shipwright Chest, if another crew member has equipped a Ship Cosmetic you will now see that cosmetic in your inventory grid in addition to the preview pane confirming that a member of your crew had applied it.
  • Emergent Skeleton Captain Rewards – With the introduction of Ritual Skulls to the Skeleton Ship battles in the center of the world, when defeating an Emergent Skeleton Captain, now following their Skeleton orders will no longer reward a Ritual Skull.

  • ‘The Seabound Soul’ Commendations – A number of Commendation issues have been identified causing progress through this Tall Tale to not grant the expected Commendation progress. The hotly anticipated Sword of Souls is also not currently being granted to players once the commendation is completed.
  • Reign of Ash Commendations – The newly added ‘The Seabound Soul’ section (soon to be renamed) in the Bilge Rats Reputation page contains a range of Commendations with placeholder imagery and text. A number of Commendation issues have also been identified causing progress through these activities to not grant the expected Commendation progress. Please do not provide feedback on these Commendations in this Insiders build.
  • Pirate Emporium Placeholders – With the November’s Pirate Emporium in an early state of development, many items still have placeholder imagery. Please do not provide feedback on placeholder imagery in this Insiders build.
  • Pirate Emporium Festival of Plenty Outfits – To much disappointment, the Festival of Plenty pet outfits do not currently show on pets when equipped. While Insiders can purchase these items, they will not become equip able until a future Insider build. Please do not provide feedback on the Festival of Plenty Pet Outfits in this Insiders build.

  • Cosmetics Saving across Sessions – Players’ loadouts are currently not persisting between sessions.
  • ‘Sailor of the Shores of Gold’ Title not awarded – Some players may find that after completing the ‘Seeker of Grand Adventure’ Commendation the ‘Sailor of the Shores of Gold’ title is not awarded.
