Insider Patch Notes - Update 2.0.8.1
Insider Update 2.0.8.1 is now live! With Fort of the Damned entertaining players in Retail we are full steam ahead for The Seabound Soul! With new updates to The Seabound Soul Tall Tale and supported with a range of changes to Fire, jump in and give us your feedback on all the new additions/changes!

Seabound Soul
- The Seabound Soul Title Screen – The Sea of Thieves title screen has now been updated to celebrate the upcoming release of ‘The Seabound Soul’, along with new table dressing and our new logo!
- The Seabound Soul Quest Book – The Seabound Soul Quest Book on the Captain's Cabin Table on Shipwreck Bay now uses the correct design and tooltip; this new design is also used for the Quest Book when found on your Captain’s Table. The page layouts have also been revised to ensure they feel more hand-written. The third ‘Lost Soul’ page has now been replaced with a picture & text puzzle.
- Additional Puzzles Added – Additional puzzles have been added to the Seabound Soul, prior to crews picking up the trail of the Ashen Dragon. The placement of the Ghost Ship locations have also been updated to coincide with adding these 'puzzles' that players must solve to pick up the trail of the Ashen Dragon ship.
- Ashen Skeleton Encounter – An encounter with Ashen Skeletons has been added to the Tale, these skeletons have the same vulnerability as regular skeletons found out in the world however have been charred by the presence of their Captain…
- The Captain’s Sarcophagus – Players will now find Captain Flameheart's Skull in the sarcophagus instead of the Skull of Captain Douglas. Flameheart’s remains now have a ghostly effect when peeking inside with your enchanted lantern.
- Ashen Artefacts Pirate Phrases – All three Ashen Artefacts now have appropriate non-verbal messages when wielded for you to communicate with your crew.
- The Seabound Soul Commendations – A range of Commendations have been added cataloguing players progress through the latest Tall Tale. These can be found in a new tab the Tall Tales section of the Reputation page. Progressing through these Commendations, players can earn new rewards; ‘Pendragon’s Sword of Souls’ and the ‘Ashen Dragon Sails’.
- The Seabound Soul Polish – As we approach release quality for The Seabound Soul, an initial polish pass has been done across the Tale. Music has now been added, popup artwork and styling updated, themed Tale Banners have been added.
Fire
- Firebombs in Barrels - Increased the chance to find firebombs in barrels across the world.
- What’s that smell? – For the absent-minded pirates, cooking on a ship now becomes a little more treacherous. Leaving food burning on the stove now has a chance to set the ship on fire.
- Ship Masts on Fire! – Ship masts can now completely catch fire!
- Skeleton Ship Fire Balancing – Rebalanced fire against Skeleton Ships so that it burns out more quickly.
- Fire Balancing in the Rain – When caught on fire, players and skeletons will have to stand a little longer in the rain before they are fully doused.
Updates
- Portable Ammo Crates – Portable Ammo Crates can now be found washed up across the Sea of Thieves. These can hold a stack of 50 ammo for your guns and can be carried to the Ammo Chest found on your ship or on an island to restock the Ammo Crates supply.
- Expanded Emote Radial – Players now have access to three pages within the Emote Radial, allowing further customisation when slotting your newly acquired emotes.
- Stocked Rowboats – Check that rowboat storage carefully, Rowboats can now spawn with goodies inside!
- Pirate Emporium Pet Icons – All pets have been reposed in the Pirate Emporium Pet Section to better show off their charm, these icons also better visualise the various pet outfits on sale!
- Ancient Coin Balance – Players can check their current Ancient Coin balance at the top of the HUD alongside their Gold and Doubloon balances when inside menus.
- Fort of the Damned Key – The Fort of the Damned Key will now be tracked on the map for all players to see.
- Particle Effects Quality – A new graphics option has been added for PC players. This will enable players to control the quality of some particle effects in the game. Higher settings will increase particle counts and add more variation to the particle effects, however, can affect both CPU and GPU performance.
Fixed Issues
General
- Info text should no longer be displayed when sailing through the Devil’s Shroud approaching the Shores of Gold.
- Players will now be prevented from playing an emote when already taking continuous damage. Taking continuous damage while emoting also cancels the players current emote.
- Players can no longer be affected by the Jigball or Wearyball when already taking continuous. damage. Taking continuous damage while under the effects of the Jigball or Wearyball also cancels the players current cursed effect.
- Ships on the edge of a storm will now begin to take on rainwater when rain effects are visible onscreen.
- Playing an emote should no longer show your shadow popping into a t-pose.
- Players should no longer become stuck between the shipwreck and dock in the Pirate Legend Hideout.
- Players can no longer continuously attack an animal after it has died and disappeared producing SFX and VFX.
- Gunpowder Skeletons no longer become paralysed if their Gunpowder Keg is harpooned away from them.
- Moved the tooltip to remove a pet from an animal cage so it is more visible onscreen.
- Pets will no longer instantly become clean if jumping in the water.
- Shadows will no longer be cast from the mountains in the evening on Plunder Outpost
- Sword lunging into the Pirate Emporium and interacting with the Emporium NPC no longer locks player movement.
- Players browsing the Pirate Emporium now display the correct presence in their Xbox status while playing Sea of Thieves.
- Skeletons spawning on Lost Gold Fort should no longer spawn on top of each other in the same spot.
- ‘The Legendary Storyteller’ – The Chalice Key and Crown Key are now correctly textured.
- Corrected a range of cannon icons to ensure they are centred inside the icon and preview image.
- Players carrying the Pirate Legend shanty into deep water will now hear the underwater version of the tune.
Arena
- DeMarco now uses his correct animations when inside the Sea Dogs Tavern.
Fort of the Damned
- Dropped Skeleton Orders will now use the correct radial iconography in the quest radial menu.
- Shadows of Fate should no longer spawn on top of each other in the same spot.
- Ferryman Statue’s ‘Grate Hands’ are now cleared once the Fort is completed.
- Ferryman Statue’s ‘Grate Hands’ will correctly reactivate when leaving and re-joining the Fort while in progress.
- Improved the animations used by the Ferryman Statue’s ‘Grate Hands’ to provide more variety.
- Players who are teleported out of the vault when the Fort is restarted are now teleported to their Ship.
- All players and their crews who are present on the Island when the Fort is completed will now correctly be awarded the ‘Fort Completion’ Commendation progress.
- On opening the fort door, the key is now visually removed.
The Seabound Soul
- While progressing through the Tale, Ghost Ships will correctly respawn for players should you get lost while tracking them down.
- Digging up the skull at the second dig site now correctly unearths after the first dig.
- The Ghost Ships should no longer have collision blocking players as they swim down.
- The Sarcophagus Ghost scene can no longer become out of sync when repeatedly using the lantern.
- The first and second Ghost Ship scenes now display the correct sails.
- The Ashen Flag reward is now correct when applied to the Brigantine.
- The Ashen Lantern light sources is now orientated correctly.
- Revised text issues in subtitle dialog.
Fire
- Lit campfires will now be visible at the same distance as lit beacons, ensuring they can be spotted at a distance from the island.
- The Eye of Reach now has the chance to light a campfire.
- Players will Cough when near a fire source, not just when on fire.
- Campfires will now visually show how far they are burned through from the wood charring inside.
- The Chest of Rage will now get hot and eventually explode when attached to the end of a harpoon.
- Corrected cash-in popup for the Chest of Rage.
- Players will now become wet after raising water reaches their ankles, rather than after reaching their waist.
- Players can no longer prevent taking damage by climbing into a cannon while on fire.
- Fire on the Top Stairs of the Skeleton Galleon will now be quickly doused by rain.
- Firebombs thrown upwards in the Pirate Legend Hideout now come back down again.
- Standing on the back of the Brigantine while it is on fire will now set your player alight.
- Standing on the cloth canopy on the Sloop while it is on fire will now set your player alight.
- Standing in fire on the lower deck of the Sloop and self-dousing will now douse the local area.
- Standing in fire on the back of the Brigantine and self-dousing will now douse the local area.
- Standing in fire on the cloth canopy on the Sloop and self-dousing will now douse the local area.
- The fire trail behind a thrown Firebomb is now correctly attached to the Firebomb.
- When on fire and wielding an item or weapon, fishing, sprinting or on max FOV – the fire VFX will now show correctly in first-person.
- When a ship begins filling with water it now interacts correctly with the water inside the ship water barrel.
- Any ship fire above decks will now go out faster when entering into the rain of a storm. However, if players exit the storm before the fire is completely doused the fire will reignite.
Known Issues
- Spawning on the Shores of Gold – On returning from the Ferry of the Damned or via a Mermaid, Players may find themselves spawning on the Shores of Gold.
- Cosmetics Saving across Sessions – Players loadouts are currently not persisting between sessions.
- ‘Sailor of the Shores of Gold’ Title not awarded – Some players may find that after completing the ‘Seeker of Grand Adventure’ Commendation the ‘Sailor of the Shores of Gold’ title is not awarded.
