Insider Patch Notes 2.0.23.5

Insider Update 2.0.23.5 is now live! After waking up in the tavern, discover a new weapon ready to be wielded and dive into the seas to discover a terrifying new enemy in the depths below. Head to the Pirate Emporium to deck out your ship, and pirate, ready for adventure. Don’t forget to check the Events tab to see what Deeds are active and set sail as an Emissary!

As always, if you encounter any bugs, then please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.

Sirens

Hot on the heels of the Phantoms, this Insider build introduces our new underwater threat, Sirens! Keep a keen ear out for their eerie song and prepare yourselves. For an update from our Creative Director, head to this Developer Update.

Siren Spawning

  • Sirens are a new underwater threat that appear from deep below the waves. Their arrival is foreshadowed by a familiar but ominous song, after which they will appear and attempt to take the lives of pirates that dare to enter their waters.

In this Insider’s build, Sirens will be encountered more frequently when swimming to facilitate testing and feedback.

  • There are two types of Siren; there are Sirens which are the most common and weakest form of Siren you will find, and also Siren Leaders, the tougher variation of Siren that wields The Trident of Dark Tides.

Sirens Abilities

  • Scratch - Sirens swim up to the player and begin a ferocious flurry of scratches that deal damage, this is sometimes followed up by a scream that knocks players away afterwards. This attack can be blocked by a cutlass.
  • Siren Song - Sirens use the power of siren song to launch a projectile towards the player that deals damage on impact.
  • Disorientate - Sirens dash out of sight and reappear somewhere else near the player.
  • Siren Heal - Sirens channel the power of the gem found in their chest to regenerate their health, restoring them whilst dealing damage to players who get too close.

The Trident of Dark Tides

  • A new powerful weapon wielded by the Sirens, but equally powerful in the hands of a pirate!

For this Insider’s build, players will be able to find Tridents laid out across the tables inside the tavern at each Outpost.

  • The Trident needs to be charged up by holding the fire button, then a bubble will begin to grow on the end of the Trident. As it charges up, the bubble grows between three different sizes. The longer it takes to charge up the larger, slower and more powerful the bubble becomes. When the fire button is released, the bubble will be launched from the Trident.
  • Players can aim the trident using secondary fire to line up the perfect shot before beginning to charge up a bubble.
  • Sharpshooting pirates can also detonate the bubble mid-air by either hitting it with another bubble or shooting it with a gun!

Season Two

With new progression, rewards to earn, Trials to tackle and even a new Plunder Pass to purchase, there is plenty to sink your teeth into. For an overview of Season Two, head to this Developer Update.

Fort of Fortune

  • The Fort of Fortune skull cloud is a rare sight on the Sea of Thieves. When you hear the bellowing across the seas, rally your crew to set sail and battle to reclaim the fabled loot locked away inside the Vault.
  • The Fort of Fortune will feature more challenging waves of skeletons, with Captains appearing more regularly. Defeating a Captain is guaranteed to drop the location of an armament on the island to use in the battle ahead.
  • The final challenging waves will pit crews against ferocious Skeleton Lords before finally facing off against the deadly Ashen Lord.
  • The Fort of Fortune will contain a range of legendary rewards, including the fabled Chest of Legends.

Emissary Trade Routes

  • As a Merchant Emissary, players can now purchase Emissary Commodity Crates from Merchant Alliance representatives and sell them on at different Outposts for a profit.
  • A Merchant Manifest can now be found at each Outpost for players to reference which Outposts are currently in demand or in surplus of their Emissary Commodity crates.

These Trade Routes will change each week once this reaches our retail build, however for Insider testing they will change each day.

Merchant Resource Crates

  • There is now a limit on how many Resource, Storage and Commodity Crates crews can purchase. A crew will be limited to purchasing one of each crate every in-game day.
  • Resource Crates purchasable by crews from the Merchant Alliance are now filled. Cannonball crates contain 50 cannonballs, wood crates hold 50 wooden planks and fruit crates come stocked with 50 bananas.

Emissary Discoverability

  • The Emissary tutorial providing the ins and outs of Emissary play accessible from the Quick Menu now has refreshed visuals.

Season Two Trials

  • Trials of Exploration now contain the ‘Accomplished Reaper of Wrecks’ and ‘Master Diver’ Trials boosting progression for crews exploring the missing wrecks of the Lost Shipments.

Season Two Progression

  • In Season Two players can now earn repeatable Renown from engaging with Merchant Emissary Trade Routes and Fort of Fortune.
  • Using the Merchant Manifest to seek out stock in demand and selling a Commodity Crate at highest profit will award Renown to the crew.
  • Storming the Fort of Fortune, battling through the deadly waves and unlocking the Fort of Fortune Vault will award Renown to the crew.

Season Two Rewards

  • The Shackled Phantom Hull reward has now returned to its rightful place at Level 100.
  • The Season Two reward view has been redesigned to provide more clarity between rewards earned for free through regular Season play and those which are unlocked with the additional purchase of the Plunder Pass.

Game Events

Reapers Vs the World

  • Players will be given a fresh batch of Deeds each fortnight, focusing on different Trading Companies. These Deeds will encourage players to sail the seas while representing each Trading Company as an Emissary, completing Voyages, and selling treasures while flying the Emissary Flag.
  • Completing these Deeds will allow players to earn a series of cosmetic rewards and Season Renown. These rewards are the Gold Hoarders Lantern, Order of Souls Spyglass and Merchant Alliance Compass.
  • There will also be an over-arching Deed that spans the duration of the event, tasking players with selling Emissary Flags to the Reaper’s Hideout while sailing as a Reaper’s Bones Emissary. Players who complete 50% of the over-arching Deed total will earn a cosmetic after the Event has finished. This cosmetic will be a hat thematically based on the Trading Company which ended up with most Emissary Flags being sold to the Reaper’s Hideout over the course of the event.
  • When this Event is over, the themed Trading Company rewards will still be obtainable from Outpost stores after completing certain Commendations.

Known Issues

Clothing Textures

  • All clothing textures are failing to display correctly in this Insider’s update and are instead displaying a fallback greyscale texture.

Season Two

Trials that challenge crews to face off against the Fort of Fortune or plot the course with Merchant Emissary Trade Routes do not currently track the following progression:

  • ‘Apprentice Quartermaster’
  • ‘Experienced Trader’
  • ‘Experienced Haggler’
  • ‘Seasoned Profiteer’
  • ‘Infamous Reaper of Routes’
  • ‘Infamous Fort Breaker’
  • ‘Deadly Reaper of Forts’ Trials.
  • Performing the Barrel disguise emote does not currently hide your gamertag for other players.

Pirate Emporium

  • Equipping a Costume with a Costume Emote will not show the Emote in the radial.
  • There is placeholder artwork and text throughout the Pirate Emporium.
  • The Reaper's Heart Pets are missing textures.

Fort of Fortune

  • When defeating Skeleton Lords in the final waves they will all drop Fort Keys. These Fort keys can currently be used to unlock existing Skeleton Forts, however this will be prevented in a future Insiders build.
  • The final Ashen Lord currently drops no reward.
  • Player receives Hazelnutbeard when approaching a Fort of Fortune that becomes active for the second time on that server.
  • Players will die upon loading in If they join a crew in relevancy of an active Fort.

Reapers Vs the World

  • All phases are showing as “Event Ended” whilst they are all active.
  • There is placeholder artwork and text throughout the Events Quick Menu and Larinna’s Black Market.
  • While the Reapers vs The World event is active, Larinna currently has no dialog pertaining to the Event.

Outpost Cosmetics

  • Gold Hoarder Weapons now available in the Outpost Weapon Store still display the ‘Unlocked through vault raiders event’ description.
  • Gold Hoarder Weapons are awarded instantly to players on completing the Seeker of Ancient Vaults commendation rather than them being unlocked for purchase in the shop.

Localisation

  • Newly added text across multiple areas of Season Two are awaiting localization in Non-English languages. These will display English text until appropriate localisation is updated.
  • There is currently placeholder text throughout the Outpost shop and vanity chests.
