Insider Patch Notes 2.0.23.2

Insider Update 2.0.23.2 is now live! Season Two has begun to arrive in Insiders, unlocking new progression, rewards and Trials alongside gameplay improvements. Looking further out onto the horizon, a new land-based threat arrives early for Insider testing!

As always, if you encounter any bugs, then please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.

Phantoms

This Insider build introduces our new land-based threat, Phantoms! These fearsome foes have picked up unnatural abilities that further enhance their fast-paced attacks, striking fear into the hearts of every living crew they encounter. For an update from our Creative Director, head to this Developer Update.

Phantom Spawning

  • When venturing across the Sea of Thieves, all emergent encounters with skeletons will now instead summon Phantoms.

This emergent spawning change allows us to begin testing Phantoms with Insiders, however, is not representative of how they will appear in the final experience.

Phantom Abilities

  • Teleport – The Phantom blinks in and out of existence to cover great distances. This bewilders their opponents, creating opportunities and new angles for attack.
  • Teleport Charge – A deliberate and aggressive string of teleports chained together to directly attack an opponent. The Phantom wields its cutlass and can be seen winding up the attack as it zips towards its victim.
  • Lunge – Desperate and angry, the Phantom picks a target and rushes towards them, arms outstretched, in a vicious swoop.

Season Two

Season Two arrives in Insiders as we prepare for our April Update. With new progression, rewards to earn, Trials to tackle and even a new Plunder Pass to purchase, there is plenty to sink your teeth into. For an overview of Season Two, head to this Developer Update.

Refreshed Emissary Ledger Rewards

  • Each Season will now introduce refreshed Emissary Ledger rewards for all five Emissary Trading Companies.
  • Refreshed Ledger rewards include new Titles for all three Tiers along with new cosmetic rewards for the Top Two Tiers.

To facilitate Insider testing, Emissary Ledgers in the Insider build will now refresh every 3-4 days.

Emissary Discoverability

  • Browsing the Trading Company stores or Reputation quick menu for the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, Merchant Alliance, or Reaper's Bones, players can now summon an Emissary tutorial providing the ins and outs of Emissary play.
  • The purchasable ‘Emissary Flag’ required to represent a Trading Company has been renamed to an ‘Emissary License’ to reinforce its single purchase requirement.

World Event Rebalancing

  • With Ashen Lords and the Flameheart Armada battle having been showcased up front as part of the world event rotation for some time, their frequency is now reduced.
  • Skeleton Forts will once again be the most frequently active world events, followed by the rest of the events now each with an equal chance.
  • The likelihood that players can be targeted by the Kraken immediately after a previous world event has been reduced.

Season Two Progression & Rewards

  • Season Two is here and brings new levels of progression along with new rewards to earn.
  • Progressing through Season Two will reward pirates with the Lucky Clothing Set, unique Season specials along with time-limited Ocean Deep Season Two collectibles. Pirate Legends can earn the Athena’s Might Cutlass and Shackled Phantom Hull.
  • Completing each tier awards a unique Title that shows your progress for all to see!

Season Two Trials

  • Players looking to accelerate their progress through a Season should take on the Trials – themed sets of tasks known as Deeds that will test your adventuring, exploring and battling capabilities.
  • Season Two contains a refreshed set of Trials for experienced pirates that incentivise Emissary play, Fort of Fortune reaping, and merchant trading. New players will benefit from a refined Maiden Voyage progression experience, bringing them gently into the world of Sea of Thieves.

While Insiders have access to a range of new Trials, these Trials are unable to be completed until these features become available for testing.

Season Two Plunder Pass

  • Available for Plunder Pass owners to unlock are the Black Phoenix Figurehead, Sails and Flag along with the Backflip and Popcorn emotes. These items will be available at a later date through the Pirate Emporium.
  • The Shrouded Ghost Hunter Costume, Cronch Cutlass, Elemental Power Hull, Paradise Garden Cannon and Witch Markings Makeup are also obtainable through the Season Two Plunder Pass.

Updates

Season One Cosmetics

  • Season One’s Cosmetic Rewards have now landed in their respective Outpost stores locked behind Commendations.
  • The Frostbite Clothing, unique season specials and Pirate Legend Cosmetics are now available for purchase for those who didn’t unlock them in Season One.

Known Issues

Season Two

  • Trials with ‘Placeholder’ in the title are currently unable to be progressed.
  • Some Season rewards display an error and are not awarded when reaching the appropriate level.
  • Season Two uses a range of placeholder and out of date imagery across the UI.

Pirate Emporium

  • Purchasing Ancient Coins through in-game menu results in infinite loading.

Phantoms

  • Hitting a Phantom with a cursed cannonball will cause them to play an incorrect animation.

Localisation

  • There is currently placeholder text throughout the Outpost shop and vanity chests.

Fixed Issues

General

  • The Eastern Winds Jade Items should now have consistent unlocking Commendation name in the description in equipment shop and Reputation tab.
  • Players should no longer be able to be launched up when diving against the pier on the Fort of the Damned.
  • Skeleton ship markers around loot dropped should now fade out when picked up instead of disappearing instantly.

Glitterbeard

  • Players should no longer be able to get stuck on the door or pushed up in the air and safe teleported in certain areas.

Outpost Cosmetics

  • The Castaway Blige Rat Flag name has been corrected.
  • The front glass on various compasses and pocket watches should no longer pop in and out.
