Insider Patch Notes 2.0.16.3

Insider Update 2.0.16.3 is now live with further updates to Ashen Lords and an exciting new reward, the Ashen Winds Skull. Sail towards the blazing tornado to try your hand at defeating an Ashen Lord, acquiring the Ashen Winds Skull and wield its fiery power!

If you encounter any bugs, then please head to the Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.

Ashen Lords

Upon defeating an Ashen Lord, a devastating new reward will be dropped – the Ashen Winds Skull! While the Ashen Winds Skull can be handed over to the Order of Souls for a Gold reward, it’s raw power can be used for other nefarious means…

  • Ashen Winds Skull – Wield the Ashen Winds Skull against rival players like a Flamethrower, causing nearby players, skeletons and ships to be set on fire. The Ashen Wind’s Skull has a finite amount of charge which is visualized by the crystal inside its skull. Once drained the skull can no longer be used as a weapon; the amount of charge left when selling it will affect how much it is worth to the Order! This Insider build contains a very early version of the Ashen Winds Skull and still contains placeholder elements such as animations and audio, along with missing visualization for the amount of charge remaining in the skull.
  • Ashen Lord Encounter – The placeholder skull cloud has now been replaced with a fiery tornado to indicate the location of an Ashen Lord Encounter.

Updates

  • ‘My Crew’ Visibility – The in-game crew management menu will now display players that take up a slot in your crew even if they are not currently in game. This should now better visualize players who are still in the process of joining your game or have lost connection and have a reserved slot. While your crew is full, the option to invite friends will also now be disabled.

Known Issues

  • Ashen Lord VFX – The visual effects surrounding the Ashen Lords are larger than intended.
  • Ashen Lord Encounter – When engaging an Ashen Lord in and around water they become unable to summon skeletons and even aim at players with ranged attacks.
  • Ashen Lord Encounter – When exiting his final vulnerable state, the Ashen Lord casts Worlds End instantly.
  • Molten Rock Throw – After the Molten Rock Throw VFX has disappeared players can still be damaged.
  • Ashen Lords Dialogue – Ashen Lord dialogue and subtitles are triggering before the boss is summoned.
  • Ashen Lord Encounter – When attempting to damage the Ashen Lord with a Firebomb there will be a hit marker produced but no damage will be done to the Ashen Lord. The Chest of Rage will also not deal any damage.
  • Ashen Winds Skull – Ashen Wind Skulls are still in development, because of this audio and animation is a work in progress. When using the primary use in quick succession it can cause you to become disconnected from the server, tap and hold to fire to avoid this! The primary use can also do incorrect damage to the Ship Wheel, Mast and Capstan.
  • Single Stick Setting – Climbing up or down a ladder and jumping off it will cause your camera to get stuck looking up/down.

Fixed Issues

General

  • Players experiencing a corrupt installation on UWP or Steam will now be notified by a pop up when attempting to launch the game.
  • Loading into the title screen on PC will no longer crash due to a missing file error.
  • When using the Single Stick accessibility setting, cancelling fishing will now auto-centre your camera.
  • Opening crates now plays a sound.
  • When becoming abandoned and having a mermaid surface to rescue you, if your ship now returns within range, the mermaid will no longer disappear.

Combat

  • Improvements to melee hit registration when both attacking and defending players are swimming on the surface and underwater.

Ashen Lords

  • There is now music attached to the Ashen Lord Encounter.
  • Players should no longer be rewarded with Stitcher Jim's Chest of Rage when defeating an Ashen Lord encounter.
  • Defeating an Ashen Lord will still reward players even if they are out of range or on the Ferry of the Damned.

Arena

  • The Arena vote tally layout has been changed to be more visible.
  • While inside the Arena, after muting a player in a rival crew they will continue to stay muted even if other players join their crew.

UI

  • The Adventure and Arena buttons will now be responsive when clicking on any part of the buttons.
