Insider Patch Notes 2.0.13.1
Insider Update 2.0.13.1 is now live! With updates to the Trading Company Emissaries, Pirate Emporium and even a new, haunting threat sailing the seas, there’s plenty to get involved in!
If you do encounter any bugs, then please head to the
Sea of Thieves support site and let our Player Support team know.
Ghost Ships
Flameheart’s power rises! As his influence across the Sea of Thieves escalates, the infamous spectre is summoning long lost vessels from the Sea of the Damned to his service…
This current Insider Build has a very early iteration of Ghost Ships, using a placeholder ship cloud in the sky. We will continue to iterate and balance the encounter based on your feedback on this initial encounter.
- Ghost Ship Encounter – Seek out the large Ship Cloud in the sky and head towards your encounter with the haunted fleet. On arriving at the cursed island you’ll encounter a fleet of Ghost Ships haunting the island – take them down!
- Engaging with the Ghost Ships – These Ghost Ships will fire a barrage of ghostly spectres at your crew, so position yourselves carefully to avoid them. While you can sail straight through these haunted apparitions, prepare for your ship to take some damage!
Non-Verbal Communication
The team are working on a suite of improvements to non-verbal communication in order to aid crew communication and teamwork. This Insider build introduces a set of initial improvements to nameplates, with more changes coming in a future Insider update.
- Crew Nameplate Visibility – Gameplay Settings now contains a ‘Crews Status Tags’ option - switching this on enables your crewmates nameplates to become visible through solid objects and increases the overall distance you can see nameplates.
This current Insider build has an uncapped distance in which you can see your crew’s nameplates across the entire server. This value is for initial testing purposes and will change to a much closer distance.

- Cats! – Head to the Pirate Emporium to collect a furry friend, with 3 breeds to choose from; the Scruffy Wildcat, Fluffy Ragamuffin and Slinky Mau and a wide range of colours you’re sure to find your next floofy companion!

- Expanding Trading Company Ranks – The Trading Companies have expanded their ranks to defend against the Reaper’s Threat. The Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls and Merchant Alliance now allow players to progress to Rank 75 while Athena’s Fortune now allow players to progress to Rank 20. Along with new ranks, each company has a range of new Commendations and will unlock each Trading Companies ship cosmetics to truly represent your allegiance. The new Trading Company Commendations are visible in the reputation pane however are not currently unlocking in this Insider build.
Trading Company Emissaries
- Emissary Voting Tables – The Outpost Voting Tables have now been dressed for each Trading Company. Completing a vote to become an Emissary will now confirm your Emissary status with UI Banners.
- Visualising Emissaries on the Seas – When approaching an Outpost Voting Table, crews can now see how many other Emissary crews are representing that Trading Company. Check the table before making your choice and ally against the Reapers!
- Emissary Grade 5 – Reaching Emissary Grade 5 with Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, Merchant Alliance or Athena’s Fortune will unlock a crew’s access to a repeatable high reward Voyage from their Trading Company Representative at their Outpost. Once a Reaper’s Bones crew reaches Emissary Grade 5 however, they will unlock the ability to spot any Emissary Ship no matter their Emissary Grade on their own Ship’s Map! The Grade 5 Voyage is not currently functional for this Insider build.
- Rewarding Emissary Player Kills – As a Reaper Emissary defeating players will now earn Emissary Grade Progression, however this offers diminishing returns on repeat kills of the same player. This diminishing returns resets after 10 minutes allowing crews to continue to earn progression when defending an objective from a rival crew. For the other Trading Company Emissaries, defeating Reapers will also reward you with Emissary Grade Progression.
Reviving
- Offering your Soul to the Ferryman – As soon as you die you will be able to ‘Offer Your Soul’ to the Ferryman and go straight to the Ferry of the Damned. This is only available in Adventure as Arena players do not visit the Ferry upon death.

When attempting to revive a crewmate in Adventure you have a much shorter window in which you can safely revive before they are taken to the Ferry.
