Insider Patch Notes - Update 1.4.4.2.2
With our March 20th build now stabilised and on its way through the release pipeline, it’s time to return to our Insider Preview feature set.
A lot of you have been asking for this feature for a long time and following some internal playtesting we are ready to release Fishing into Preview! In addition to this, we have further improvements and fixes from your previous rounds of feedback.
Fishing!
This build introduces the ability for players to use a fishing rod and catch something for dinner! In upcoming builds we’ll introduce more reasons to venture out to all corners of the world to collect the rarest fish and welcome an old friend back in the process.
- Fishing Rod – Players will find a Fishing Rod added to the second page of their item radial. Once equipped, find some water and hold [RT] to ready your rod, then release [RT] to cast.
- I’ve got a Bite! – After a short while you’ll find that fish are attracted to your float, once they bite your job is to tire them out! Angle your rod in the opposite direction they are swimming and be careful not to snap your line, once they tire you can reel them in – just be ready for them to pull again. Once you’ve reeled them in they’ll be added to your inventory – to the stove!
- Where’s the Fish? – You may get really unlucky and find that you pull up some rubbish from the pool…
Cooking!
We’re continuing to add further depth to our cooking mechanics with this latest update, test out the variety of Fruit and Meat and how they respond to cooking!
- More Fruit?! – Players will now find a range of different Fruit in barrels out in the world. Different Fruit provide different health amounts when eaten, you’ve now got much more choice for your dinner. The shipwrights have told us that fruit doesn’t cook so well, you’ll have to try for yourselves.
- Cooked Meat, or Raw? – Along with Fruit, players can now find a range of Animal Meat in barrels. You can nom this while raw if you really want or use the Stove on your ship to cook it thoroughly before taking a bite.
- Food Poisoning - As with all pirate cuisine, players always run the risk when eating some dodgy food. We suggest thoroughly cooking your meat to reduce the chance of poisoning. If you do find yourself getting blurred vision and vomiting without touching the Grog - you may have Food Poisoning!
Updates!
- Harpoon Players – Latching onto a crewmate or rival player with the harpoon now retracts them back to your ship.
- Harpoon Retraction Speed – Reduced the speed in which harpoons can retract once latched on.
- Pets on Ships! – After some training, pets will now follow you onto your ship and can path around the decks.
Insider Features Still Active
- Tall Tales: The Cursed Rogue – This Tale follows the legend of a Skeleton Lord who was once a humble treasure seeker like yourself. Can you solve the puzzles left behind and track down this elusive character? Head to Madame Olive at Plunder Outpost to find a new Tale book placed beside her.
- Voyage Voting - With the introduction of Tall Tales, crews can venture out with both a current Voyage and a Tall Tale active at the same time. Once started these can be found and cancelled from the Captain's Table.
- Random Pet Allocation – On joining the game players will be randomly gifted either a Monkey or Parrot as a pet.
- Pet Movement & Interaction – Pets will follow your pirate as they traverse the world. You can of course pick up yours or another pet you find out in the world for a closer inspection, but stay away from the cannons…
- Pet’s Reacting to their Owners – You’ll quickly find that pets will react to certain actions performed by players, they currently only have a few abilities trained – but looking forward to growing this in coming builds.
- Harpoon - After all the waiting, the Shipwrights have finally delivered the Harpoons we ordered! Each Ship now has two Harpoons fitted in the recesses on the bow; latch onto rival crews in the heat of battle or onto the environment for some advanced sailing tactics. This initial build delivers the base functionality, reeling-in objects coming soon!
- Harpoon Spinners – Harpoons now have spinners attached to better visualise the spooling and reeling of the rope.
- Harpoon Audio – Attached various Harpoon audio effects to improve the player feedback when using the Harpoon.
- Ship Damage - Hull Holes - When targeting shots into your enemy’s hull, repeated shots in the same place will now grow the size of the damage holes. These new holes vary in size and increase the rate in which your ship fills with water and takes longer to repair!
- Ship Damage - Collapse the Mast - Landing a clutch shot on an enemies Mast will now drop the mast onto the deck of the ship, slowing their speed. Your enemies will need to both raise the mast and patch it with wood to secure it back in place.
- Ship Damage - Drop the Anchor - Targeting a shot onto the Capstan will drop the anchor and damage the Capstan pegs. Your enemy will need to repair their capstan pegs to retain its original raising speed.
- Ship Damage - Disable the Wheel - Targeting an enemy’s wheel will destroy pegs within the wheel, reducing the effectiveness in turning the Ship. Your enemy will need to repair their Ship wheel pegs to retain its original turning rate.
- Shop Browsing - Finding a specific category of item is now much easier in the shop, filters have been added to all shops.
- PC High Dynamic Range - Support for HDR compatible Screens on PC. Players can access a 'HDR Calibration' page with Settings to calibrate the Brightness of the display.

Known Issues
- Temporarily Losing Equipment – When wielding an item, using the Quick Inventory menu to swap to an item of food will remove the previously wielded item from your item radial. Use your Quick Inventory to select the missing item to return it.
- Stuck in Fishing – When wielding a fishing rod and casting into the water, using the Quick Inventory menu to swap to an item of food will lock your character in position. The only way to recover from this is to be killed by another player or to leave game and rejoin.
- Cursed Rogue Locked – The Cursed Rogue Tale found at Plunder Outpost is currently locked, preventing players from starting the Tale.
- Extended Black Screen on Loading - There is a chance that players may be held indefinitely on the Black Loading Screen with Spinner when returning from the Ghost Ship.
- Revenge of the Morningstar Jacket – During the Revenge of the Morningstar Tale, players will collect an outfit from the collector’s chest. In this build this is presented as an ‘Admiral Jacket’ in the players Clothing Chest – this will be replaced by the full Morningstar outfit in an upcoming build.
- Questbook Page Turning - When using rebound Q, E, Left D-Pad or Right D-Pad buttons, you are unable to turn pages on a Tall Tales Quest Book. To workaround this please reset your keys to default.
